Full Job Description
We're hiring a Developer for the following team:
Billing & Payments Engineering Integrations: The Billing & Payments Engineering team builds and owns the mission-critical systems that power 1Password's revenue engine end-to-end. We are responsible for the highly available architecture that enables seamless subscription management, complex payment processing, and global financial compliance. From managing the intricate logic of the subscription lifecycle-creations, renewals, upgrades, and cancellations-to integrating with diverse payment gateways and app-store ecosystems, our work ensures a frictionless experience for our customers. As a team, we are actively architecting the next generation of our billing infrastructure, modernizing and consolidating our systems to support rapidly scaling product lines, guarantee absolute data integrity, and ensure robust integrations with downstream financial workflows.
How we're using AI today
Our Engineering, Product, and Design teams are thoughtfully integrating AI across the full software and product development lifecycle to move faster without sacrificing quality or security. In practice, that looks like engineers using AI-assisted coding tools to accelerate reviews and catch bugs earlier, product managers synthesizing user research at scale, and designers rapidly prototyping and iterating with AI-generated mockups. We approach AI the same way we approach security: with clear principles, human accountability at every consequential decision point, and rigorous evaluation before anything ships to customers.
This is a remote opportunity within Canada and the US.
What we're looking for:
You have 2+ years of experience in software development
A drive for and proven experience in software development best practices, and coding standards
You enjoy solving complex problems with a demonstrated ability propose effective solutions
You like communicating and collaborating and can demonstrate experience in working effectively with team and communicating technical concepts to non-technical cross-functional partners
You're passionate about testing methodologies and debugging techniques to ensure high-quality code
Bonus points for:
Billing & Payments: Experience building or maintaining billing, payment processing, or subscription platforms (e.g., Stripe, native app stores).
Distributed Systems: A strong background in designing and scaling highly available, fault-tolerant distributed architectures.
API Integrations: Proven ability to build resilient integrations with third-party APIs, including handling webhooks, retries, and strict idempotency.
What you can expect:
Code, test, debug, deliver and maintain production software systems for new and existing product features
Collaborate with cross functional teams and/or stakeholders throughout the development cycle to ensure smooth releases
Work with your teammates and project manager to communicate technical requirements to stakeholders and solve technical problems in a scalable and realistic way

Participate in planning by identifying major tasks and breaking down, estimating, and planning work
Write comprehensive tests during various stages of the development cycle, ensuring code is functioning as expected

Generate and review documentation on code processes to ensure scalability
Stay informed about the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices in development
Be available for on-call rotational work to ensure uninterrupted support and resolve emergencies
