Analytics Engineer (Department of Pharmacy)

The Analytics Engineer serves as a trusted analytics partner to Department of Pharmacy leadership, supporting medication use, pharmacy operations, quality, patient safety, regulatory reporting, and performance improvement initiatives through the development of reporting, analytics, and decision support solutions. This role requires strong business partnership skills, technical expertise, and the ability to translate complex healthcare data into actionable insights that drive operational excellence, improve patient outcomes, and support informed decision making.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Partner closely with Pharmacy leadership and subject matter experts to understand business needs, prioritize initiatives, and develop data-driven solutions that support strategic and operational objectives.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor by proactively communicating project progress, risks, dependencies, and opportunities to stakeholders.
  • Design, develop, validate, document, and maintain reporting, semantic modeling, and analytics solutions that deliver accurate, timely, and actionable information.
  • Develop and maintain SQL queries, data transformations, and governed analytics assets that support pharmacy operations, quality initiatives, and regulatory reporting.
  • Translate complex data and analytical findings into clear, meaningful insights for audiences ranging from frontline operational teams to senior executive leadership.
  • Support quality improvement, patient safety, medication stewardship, and operational excellence initiatives through project participation, analytical consultation, and data-driven recommendations.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to identify opportunities for improved data collection, reporting efficiency, data quality, and operational performance.
  • Participate in analytics engineering best practices, including documentation, source control, peer review, testing, and deployment processes.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working in a healthcare environment with an understanding of clinical operations, pharmacy workflows, quality improvement, patient safety, and healthcare regulatory reporting.
  • Epic certification or demonstrated proficiency with Epic Clarity, Caboodle, Cogito, or other Epic clinical and operational data models.
  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric, including semantic models, Power BI, Lakehouse, Data Warehouse, Dataflows, Pipelines, or related analytics capabilities.
  • Experience developing Power BI and Tableau dashboards, scorecards, reports, and self-service analytics solutions.
  • Experience with Azure DevOps (ADO), Git, GitLab, source control, and CI/CD deployment practices.
  • Strong SQL development, dimensional modeling, semantic modeling, and analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Experience developing ETL/ELT processes, data pipelines, or other modern data engineering solutions.

Work Location Requirement:

This position offers a flexible hybrid work arrangement. While routine onsite presence is not required, candidates should expect periodic onsite attendance to support collaboration, relationship building, requirements gathering, project work, and stakeholder engagement with Department of Pharmacy leadership and staff. The frequency of onsite participation will vary based on business needs, project activities, and customer engagement requirements.

Level 1 Work Performed at a minimum

  • Individual contributor works under the direct supervision of level 3 or above and collaborates as a member of a team


  • Basic understanding of core data platforms (Clarity, Caboodle) and underlying data structures pertaining to role/domain


  • Basic understanding of analytics and BI technologies and terminology related to role


  • Ability to transform data into meaningful deliverables using analytics and BI tools


  • Ability to translate business and technical requirements into assigned deliverables such as data extracts or reports


  • Basic knowledge of SQL query debugging


  • Follows all policies and procedures set forth by DUHS/DHTS/ACE as they pertain to the role


  • Responds to customer requests for assistance as assigned and prioritized by manager


  • Maintains ongoing communications (timely, clear, concise, and accurate) with manager or business analyst keeping them apprised of request status

  • Expert and team resource in SQL, data modeling, and semantic modeling


  • Expert locating data elements as required. Assists team in locating data elements as needed.


  • Works with team members to train on advanced skills in using tools and technologies to accomplish job duties


  • Demonstrates proficiency with ETL processes, data pipelines, transformation workflows, and source control/deployment practices, including use of tools such as SSIS, ADF, SQL Server Agent, Python, GitLab, and CI/CD

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Bachelor's degree in a related field, or four years of equivalent technical experience required.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

None required. Preferred certification in analytics engineering technologies, as appropriate for the position.

Experience

Level 1 - No experience required beyond the minimum education (or equivalency) requirement.

Level 2 - Two years of directly related experience is required. Prior experience with Microsoft Fabric, GitLab, and CI/CD practices is preferred.
