We are seeking a talented Design Technologist to be an integral part of a world-class team that designs and manufactures waterpark equipment.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in the fields of amusement and/or aquatic play. The primary responsibilities will include conceptualizing and developing innovative layouts, colour schemes and theming integration for our aquatic play structures.

Shift: Permanent, Full-Time

Location: Richmond, BC, Canada

Reports to: Director, Design

Salary: 75,000 - 90,000 CAD

We are seeking a creative, senior technical designer to be an integral part of a world-class team that designs and manufactures waterpark equipment. The ideal candidate will have a background in engineering, architecture, or industrial design. The primary responsibilities include configuring and designing innovative layouts for our aquatic play structures.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, collaborative, and possesses strong communication and critical-thinking skills. This role requires a self-starter with the ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a time-conscious office environment. The successful candidate must be a creative problem solver.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Conceptualize, design, and develop innovative and engaging layouts primarily for AquaPlay and AquaForms. Designs must respond to customer requests with the goal of optimizing guest experience, operational performance, and safety.
  • Collaborate with product development and creative teams to generate compelling theming designs that enhance the overall experience of play structures, aligned with current trends and market demands.
  • Work with the waterslide design team to apply customer-specific colour combinations that align with existing park aesthetics, customer preferences, and/or customer IP.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product management, engineering, manufacturing, and marketing to ensure design feasibility and market readiness.
  • Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and materials to continuously improve and modernize product offerings.
  • Assist in the development of design guidelines and standards to streamline the design process and maintain brand consistency across products.
  • Support Project Services by clearly communicating design intent to project designers and engineers to ensure alignment between proposed concepts and manufactured outcomes.
  • Deliver aesthetically appropriate colour schemes and layouts suited to a wide range of project types.
  • Proactively manage tight schedules, timelines, and established processes.
  • Demonstrate respect for others through effective communication, consideration, and cooperation.
  • Participate in, and where applicable lead, departmental training.
  • Execute responsibilities in accordance with lawful and ethical standards.
  • Take responsibility for personal safety by ensuring best practices are followed.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
  • Degree or Diploma in Architecture, Architectural Technology, Industrial Design, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a related field; experience in the aquatic play or amusement park industry is preferred.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD is essential.
  • Experience with software such as Adobe Creative Suite and 3D visualization tools (e.g., 3ds Max, SketchUp, Rhino, Maya, Keyshot, Lumion, Unreal) is an asset.
  • Graphic design or 3D animation experience is an asset.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating creative and innovative design solutions, with a focus on aquatic play structures is preferred.
  • Proven ability to lead design projects from concept through completion.
  • Knowledge of colour theory, materials, steel and fiberglass manufacturing processes, and safety standards relevant to aquatic play structures.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize projects, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to inspire and mentor junior team members.
  • Passion for playgrounds, themed entertainment, water attractions, and creating memorable guest experiences.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across multiple departments.
  • Willingness to learn, follow instructions, and work well with others.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment by following all company rules and policies.
