Design Evaluation Engineer – Data Center & Energy
The Data Center and Energy (DCE) Business Unit is seeking a hands-on engineer who thrives at the intersection of hardware and software. In this role, you will bring up and evaluate next-generation smart energy management products by developing embedded firmware, building automated test and characterization systems, and collaborating closely with design teams. You will work with microcontrollers and SoCs, power and mixed-signal hardware, and system software to support products from concept through release. This role emphasizes deep-dive debugging, root-cause analysis, and validation that directly impacts quality, performance, and customer success.
Roles and Responsibilities
• Develop embedded firmware (bare-metal and/or RTOS), along with scripts and lab infrastructure to evaluate, characterize, and validate ADI products.
• Build automation frameworks for validation and characterization using Python, LabVIEW, or C#.
• Drive system-level validation by developing test plans, defining pass/fail criteria, and ensure release readiness through robust coverage and reproducible results.
• Debug hardware and firmware, analyze data to determine root causes, and drive design/firmware fixes.
• Collaborate with others in Project Management, Hardware Design, Firmware, Test, Failure Analysis, Reliability, Manufacturing, Marketing, and Applications to solve complex technical challenges.
Key Qualifications
• BS or MS degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience
• Strong foundation in hardware fundamentals (analog, digital, mixed-signal, power) and how they interact with embedded firmware and system behavior
• Experience with PCB design or schematic/layout review and hands-on lab bring-up/debug
• Strong analytical and systems-thinking skills—comfortable moving between code, schematics, and measurements and taking end-to-end responsibility for assigned problems
• Clear technical writing and communication skills, ability to prioritize and manage multiple workstreams, and deliver on schedule
• Proficiency in embedded C/C++ and at least one automation language (Python preferred); experience with RTOS concepts, HAL/Bare-Metal drivers, and evaluation board bring-up
• Strong understanding of software development best practices, including Git-based version control, code reviews, CI/CD workflows, unit and integration testing, and effective technical documentation
• Strong working knowledge of microcontrollers/SoCs, ADCs/DACs, and serial interfaces (I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, Ethernet, etc.)
• Hands-on experience with the Xilinx Vivado FPGA toolchain, UltraScale Architecture, and ASIC emulation methodologies or platforms is preferred
