Position Summary:

The Design Engineering Department Manager leads the engineering design team for ASME pressure vessels, heat exchangers, reactors, columns, and related process equipment. The role oversees engineering operations, code compliance, resources, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver safe, cost-effective, high-quality products.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead, mentor, and develop engineering staff while setting goals, performance metrics, priorities, and development plans.
  • Assign resources to meet project schedules and business needs.
  • Promote a culture of safety, quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Direct design and analysis for pressure vessels, heat exchangers, reactors, columns, separators, and custom process equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with ASME Section VIII Divisions 1 and 2, TEMA, API, and customer specifications.
  • Review and approve calculations, design documents, drawings, bills of material, materials, and related technical decisions.
  • Maintain and improve engineering standards, design procedures, and best practices.
  • Support sales and estimating with technical reviews, bids, and proposals.
  • Coordinate engineering work to meet milestones, budgets, delivery dates, and scope requirements.
  • Resolve technical project challenges in partnership with project management.
  • Partner with manufacturing, quality, and procurement throughout production.
  • Resolve fabrication issues and support welding, machining, assembly, testing, and inspection as needed.
  • Apply design-for-manufacturability principles to engineering deliverables.
  • Maintain compliance with ASME Code, National Board requirements, and customer specifications.
  • Support audits, Authorized Inspector reviews, quality systems, and controlled documentation.
  • Improve engineering quality, productivity, and standardization.
  • Develop engineering standards, templates, calculation tools, and automation initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce cost, shorten lead times, improve efficiency, and evaluate new technologies.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering required; master's degree in Engineering or Business Administration preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in pressure vessel, heat exchanger, or process equipment design, including 5+ years in engineering leadership.
  • Strong background in custom-engineered industrial equipment manufacturing and experience working with fabrication, welding, inspection, and quality teams.
  • Extensive knowledge of ASME Section VIII Divisions 1 and 2, TEMA, API, pressure vessel calculations, heat transfer design, FEA, materials/corrosion, welding, fabrication, and NDE requirements.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD software, Compress, PV Elite, Codeware products, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and ERP/MRP systems.

Physical Requirements
