Design Engineer - Manufacturing Process Systems

Your Mission

HOERBIGER Safety Solutions, IEP Technologies (IEP) is seeking a Design Engineer/Project Engineer to join our team in Marlborough, MA. The Design Engineer has overall responsibility for new system designs and for support of the installed system base. A key responsibility is to ensure proper system design, provide customer direction for system installations to be performed to the highest standards.

The Design Engineer must be able to interpret field information, have familiarity with P&ID diagrams and process, and develop detailed Bills of Materials from that information. The incumbent will continually expand their knowledge of manufacturing process equipment to be able to properly protect various vessels.

Design explosion protection systems per NFPA and Company Design guidelines
  • Develop unique system drawings and manuals for customer applications
  • Develop unique system manuals for unique customer applications
  • Visit customer jobsites for pre-installation meetings for new or retrofit applications

Management of workload
  • Maintain multiple projects concurrently
  • Adjust priorities to meet customer needs
  • Support upkeep of the existing install base

Intercompany support
  • Work with all groups to support customer needs
  • Communicate with Field Service Engineers during system commissioning
  • Assist Regional Sales Team on new inquiries as needed


What you should be good at

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering required (Mechanical or Industrial preferred)
  • Minimum two years' experience in an engineering or manufacturing environment
  • Familiarity of hazards associated with combustible dust; familiarity with powder material manufacturing processes equipment
  • Mechanical aptitude with equipment structures and assembly
  • Understanding of basic circuits and electrical installation
  • Familiarity with reading Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams, mechanical drawings, and electrical schematics
  • Attention to detail, communication, organization skills
  • AutoCAD experience preferred
  • Position requires up to 25% travel (Canada/US/Mexico) and possible (infrequent) trips to Europe; valid US driver license required

  • Competitive Pay: This is an exempt position with a starting pay range from $80,000 to $90,000 per year. Compensation will be based upon qualifications and experience.
  • Work Location: This role is based at the IEP Technologies facility in Marlborough, MA. The role will work onsite five days per week, with the opportunity to transition to hybrid (3 days onsite / 2 days remote) based on performance after six months.
