Deputy Deployment Lead

Job Summary

The selected individual will serve as the Deputy Deployment Lead, responsible for leading and coordinating the on-site physical and automated deployment of Platform, Network, Firewall, Backup & Recovery, DevOps, and other supporting enterprise capabilities. This role ensures that solutions developed and integrated by the engineering organization are successfully installed, configured, integrated, validated, commissioned, and formally accepted at customer sites. Working closely with engineering, operations, logistics, and customer stakeholders, the Deputy Deployment Lead will help drive the successful transition of capabilities from development and integration into operational use. This individual will support deployment planning, execution, troubleshooting, and site acceptance activities while helping ensure all implementation efforts are completed in accordance with technical requirements, schedule objectives, and mission needs. The ideal candidate will bring strong coordination, technical oversight, and execution skills to support efficient fielding and operational readiness across customer environments.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Deployment Lead and PMO to plan, prioritize, and execute site deployments.
  • Lead integrated infrastructure deployment activities at contractor and customer sites.
  • Develop and maintain deployment plans, schedules, readiness criteria, checklists, and completion requirements.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams across Platform, Network, Firewall, Backup/Recovery, IaaS, DevOps, Cybersecurity, and Test.
  • Serve as a primary technical liaison among on-site teams, remote engineers, program leadership, customer stakeholders, and technical partners.
  • Lead site readiness efforts to verify facilities, power, cabling, connectivity, credentials, documentation, and other deployment prerequisites.
  • Conduct readiness reviews and provide go/no-go recommendations for deployment execution.
  • Oversee installation, configuration, integration, testing, troubleshooting, commissioning, and customer acceptance activities.
  • Ensure deployed solutions align with approved architecture, engineering standards, and security requirements.
  • Identify and manage deployment risks, blockers, dependencies, and schedule impacts, escalating issues as needed.
  • Track deployment status, issues, and completion criteria in program management tools.
  • Capture lessons learned and support transition to customer acceptance and operational readiness.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in System Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering Science, Engineering Management, or a related technical field and at least 8 years of relevant experience. Additional experience may be substituted for a degree.
  • Must have significant experience working as a systems administrator supporting large user populations and technical staff, including developers, testers, and engineers.
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience supporting Linux and Microsoft-based servers and workstations.
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience with operating system and application hardening, including DISA standards, best practices, and high-assurance environments.
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience with software and hardware deployment, patch management, operating systems, and backup/restore functions.
  • Proficiency with Windows Server 2016, Windows Server 2019, and Active Directory.
  • Must have experience coordinating and executing complex site deployments, including readiness reviews, installation, integration, commissioning, and customer acceptance activities.
  • Experience with deployment planning and operational readiness, including identifying and managing risks, blockers, dependencies, and schedule impacts.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in multi-domain environments during deployment and implementation activities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with technical teams, program leadership, and customer representatives.

  • Must be able to travel as required, including local travel and occasional 1–2 week CONUS and OCONUS trips annually.

  • Clearance Required: Must have TS/SCI with Polygraph.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Extensive experience supporting distributed, multi-site infrastructure modernization programs, working in fast-paced, compliance-driven environments.
  • Hands-on knowledge of Cisco networking, VMware NSX, Palo Alto Networks, enterprise storage, backup/recovery, and data center infrastructure.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code and automation tools such as Ansible, Terraform, PowerShell, Python, and APIs.
  • Experience integrating automated deployment workflows with physical infrastructure deployment and site commissioning.
  • Relevant certifications in VMware, Cisco, Palo Alto, cloud, or enterprise infrastructure.
  • Experience with customer site acceptance, commissioning, and technical readiness reviews.
