What is the Opportunity?

CanAtom, a joint venture between AtkinsRéalis and Aecon, is delivering the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station Refurbishment Project under a collaborative contract with Ontario Power Generation. The joint venture is underway to complete the retube, feeder, and boiler replacement (RFBR) of Units 5-8. Building on the successful delivery of the Darlington Refurbishment Project, the CanAtom team brings proven experience in safely executing complex nuclear projects on time and on budget to support Ontario's clean energy future.

The Deputy CSS is accountable for the direct execution of the construction work in the Steam Generator Replacement (SGR) Project as per established schedules and plans. The CanAtom Shift Supervisor will be responsible for the supervision, coordination, and scheduling of construction activities on the SGR Project to execute SGR construction. While on shift, and functionally, they report jointly and directly to the SGR Construction Manager.

What You'll Do Here:
  • Lead/interface with the Superintendents, Project Coordinators, General Foremen, and Subject Matter Experts executing on shift.
  • Monitor plans/schedules and identify risks and issues.
  • Interface with RFR CSS, OPG Work Coordinator, and Construction Oversight.
  • Create collaboration and partnering with OPG, Engineering, Quality, and the OCC.
  • Responsible for communicating directly to the PCC Manager to escalate issues, as per escalation protocol, and report on progress.
  • Primary responsibility for the implementation and enforcement of safety, quality, and human performance programs.
  • Ensure that Joint Venture and Client policies and project procedures are adhered to and followed by project personnel.
  • Utilize project master schedule, detailed look-ahead schedules, and plans for trade superintendent, general foreman, and subcontractor use.
  • Monitor and manage risks and develop recovery strategies when project schedule or budget are in jeopardy.
  • Be open to feedback.
  • Assume responsibility for productivity of direct hire trade labour and subcontractors, efficient use of materials and tools and equipment, and contractual performance of the project.
  • Ensure the project is constructed in compliance with drawings, specifications, Field Work Packages (CWPs), Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), and project schedule and budget.
  • Interface with client representatives, design engineers, consultants, other contractors, etc.
  • Ensure the project is constructed in accordance with QA Programs and project quality requirements.


What You Bring to the Team:
  • Minimum of 10 years of construction and subcontractor supervision experience.
  • Knowledge of all aspects of construction, including technology, equipment, methods, trade agreements and jurisdiction, engineering, cost control, scheduling, and safety requirements.
  • Experience in managing major refurbishment or complex nuclear projects.
  • Experience managing and working in a large joint venture.
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Must have a full appreciation of the importance of Quality Assurance Programs and their significance to the nuclear industry.

Pay Range: $165,000 - $172,000

Individual pay is determined based on several factors, including work location, education, experience, unique skills and job conditions. Other considerations may include certifications, specialized training, and the complexity or scope of the role.
