Job Description

The Fire Department, City of New York (FDNY) seeks a full-time Associate Fire Protection Inspector Level III (Deputy Chief Inspector) for the Bureau of Fire Prevention's Rangehood Unit. Reporting directly to the Chief Inspector of the Rangehood Unit, the successful candidate will be responsible for organization, direction, and evaluation the day-to-day operations and functions of the designated Rangehood Unit team. The responsibilities will include but not be limited to supervising the work of inspectorial and support staff, developing, implementation, and evaluation of training programs for newly hired and permanent members of the unit. Analyzing the needs and making recommendations on new programs and training proposals supporting the Department's mission and Bureau of Fire Prevention principles. Participating in the code development process; evaluating the impact of proposed codes, ordinances, and other legislation related to the operation of the Rangehood Unit. Assisting Technology Management Unit with review and approval process for regulated materials and installations requiring a Certificate of Approval and assisting the Public Certification Unit in the development and updating of Notice of Examinations and study guides.

ASSOCIATE FIRE PROTECTION INSP - 31662

Qualifications

1. Five (5) years of full-time experience in or more of the following:
a. the manufacture or storage of explosives or flammables;
b. the development of safety standards for the manufacture or storage of such materials;
c. the inspection of premises where such materials are manufactured, stored or houses to detect potential fire and explosion hazards;
d. the design, installation, operation, repair and testing of sprinkler systems, standpipes, or other fire detection or fire extinguishing systems; or

2. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" above. Education from an accredited college or technical institution with specialization in fire science technology, chemistry, physics or engineering may be substituted for the experience requirement on the basis of one year of education (30 credits) for one year of experience, up to a maximum of 4 years.

License Requirement
A Motor Vehicle Driver's License valid in the State of New York.
