The Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

The UT San Antonio, School of Dentistry, in the Dept. of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (OMS) is seeking a highly motivated and clinically skilled Physician Assistant (PA) to join our dynamic academic and surgical team. This position functions under the supervision of an oral surgeon and involves comprehensive patient care care across outpatient and hospital-based settings.

Position Overview - The PA will play a critical role in the evaluation, diagnosis, and management of patients with oral and maxillofacial conditions. Responsibilities will be but are not limited to:
  • Perform comprehensive medical histories and physical examinations.
  • Develop differential diagnoses and treatment plans independently and in conjunction with oral surgeons.
  • Order and interpret labs and imaging (CBCT, CT, MRI, radiographs).
  • Manage pre/postoperative care including infections, pain, and wound care.
  • Educate patients on procedures, risks, benefits, alternatives, and recovery.
  • Assists in the operating room on a rotational hospital basis.
  • Participate in hospital rounds, emergency departments consults, and interdisciplinary care.
  • Maintain accurate and timely EHR documentation.
  • Coordinate care effectively in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.

Clinical Scope - Facial trauma, odontogenic infections, pathology TMJ disorders, dentoalveolar surgery, orthognathic surgery, clinical procedures, craniofacial evaluations, and perioperative patient management.

Qualifications:
  • Graduate of an accredited PA program
  • Must have Texas PA license
  • NCCPA board certified
  • DEA certification preferred
  • Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery or Surgical experience preferred
