What You Will DoThis position is open for external candidates only to apply. Security Specialist-2 ($80,400 - $127,900) Associate Laboratory Directorate Defense Protection - Security Integration Office (ALDDP-INT) is seeking an exceptional and motivated individual to support Associate Laboratory Directorate for Weapons (ALDW), with security policy and advice.
Working in a fast-paced, high-visibility environment, you will need to have a keen eye for detail, maintain a positive, customer-focused attitude, and ensure all LANL and federal security requirements are met while optimizing efficiency/success for the important work being accomplished.
More importantly, you must be able to demonstrate and promote self-responsibility and accountability for safety, security, quality, and environmental standards in all operations. The Security Professional is an advisor and reports to the Security Integration Office, Security Program Leader (Security Manager-3).
The successful candidate will:
- Develop a complete understanding of security requirements and procedures
- Assist in the development, and implementation of security plans
- Work closely with their assigned organization to support mission success while ensuring adherence to all applicable security policies/procedures
- Work closely with the Security Incident Team to perform incident response and mitigation
- Conduct on-site security walk-downs and implement corrective actions when needed
- Conduct security reviews and recommend corrective actions
- Create and deliver presentations/awareness pieces to provide information and instruction on a variety of security job-related functions
- Influence the safeguard and security culture at LANL enabling a successful mission in support of our Nation
- Contribute to presentation and awareness of security themes and topics
- Develop networks within and outside the organization
- Assist in setting security related priorities
- Brief organizations and their management team on the security posture within their organizations
- Be willing to work swing-shift/backshift periods in support of important programmatic work
What You Need Minimum Job Requirements: - Demonstrated knowledge and experience in one or more of the major security areas - classified matter protection and control, information security, physical security, computer security, and personnel security
- Demonstrated experience and demonstrated skill in conducting research, investigating alternatives, and recommending solutions on problems affecting security and safeguards
- Experience and skill in the preparation and presentation of security and safeguards reports to internal organizations
- Demonstrated knowledge of security and safeguards policies, practices, and procedures.
- Ability to write and implement procedures, policies, guides or other formal documents, demonstrating compliance with security requirements
- Demonstrated intangible character traits of initiative, teamwork, independent judgment, professionalism and tact
Education and Experience:Education/Experience at lower level: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Business, Management, or Security related field, and 2 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Work Schedule:Selectee may be required to work outside of normal hours, including shift schedules.
Desired Qualifications: - Experienced in sensitive facility security operations
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with security assessments and risk management processes
- Demonstrated knowledge of Department of Energy (DOE) security and safeguards policies, practices and procedures
- Experience in formal causal analysis practices
- Experience with the mission and organization of the Laboratory and ALDDP
- Planning and policy implementation experience
- Active DOE Q-clearance
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position Commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.
