Work Shifts8:30 A.M - 4:30 P.MDuties & ResponsibilitiesPOSITION OVERVIEW: Under the directions of the Director of Nursing, with the broadest scope for the exercise of independent initiative and judgment, is involved in planning, organizing, directing coordinating and evaluating the nursing services for Skilled Nursing Facility. Assumes the responsibility of day to day operation of Nursing Services in the absence of DON.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:- In the absence of the Nursing Director, assumes direct responsibility for the twenty-four (24) hour operation and function of the nursing department.
- Prepares a report to the Director of Nursing on all administrative problems in connection with staff and patient management as required.
- Liaison for residents, staff and families for identified concerns.
- Performs all work in an accurate, consistent and diligent manner.
- Completes work according to procedures and standards, including the use of appropriate resources.
- Consistently monitors the details and quality of own and other's work.
- Demonstrates accountability in one's work, including following through on delegated assignments and/or on pending feedback.
- Seeks guidance and/or clarification when necessary to carry out assignments.
- Aids in counseling sessions for nursing staff. Spot checks attendance of employees and reviews their attendance regularly.
- Assesses nursing services by making rounds, conducting chart review and evaluating patient care as needed.
- Participates in a system of continuing evaluation of nursing services.
- Participates in implementing an effective system of clinical and administrative nursing records and reports.
- Updates and maintains required manuals, and participates in research projects as applicable.
- Participates in operating and procedural committees as signed. Author's policies and procedures as assigned.
- Assumes responsibility for developing and implementing and evaluating a staffing plan.
- Assumes responsibility to approve employee vacation requests. Ensuring adequate staffing of patient care units.
- Interviews potential new employees including R.N., L.P.N. and PCT candidates.
Project Planning and/or Management- Gathers, analyzes and organizes project information.
- Utilizes logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
- Monitors projects and initiatives under area of responsibility.

Minimum Qualifications1. Licensed and currently registered to practice as a Professional Nurse in New York State; and,
2. A Master's Degree in Nursing Administration or an equivalent field from an accredited college or university, and a minimum of four years of high-level responsible experience in nursing administration, three years of which shall have been in a hospital; or,
3. A satisfactory equivalent combination of education, experience and training. However, all candidates must be licensed and currently registered to practice as a Professional Nurse in New York State.
