GENERAL PURPOSEApplications are being accepted for a Dean of Arts & Sciences position at Northwest State Community College. This position is responsible for management and direction of the Division, and its functions. These functions include program development, faculty and student recruitment, budget development and management, and faculty development and evaluation. The dean will coordinate these responsibilities with the College as a whole so as to support the mission of NSCC.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES- Provides leadership for all instructional programs, essential instructional support services, and program evaluations for the division of Arts and Sciences.
- Provides leadership in the selection of personnel for the Arts and Sciences Division.
- Assists with student registration and orientation as necessary.
- Submits a class schedule on a semester basis.
- Provides academic counseling to students, as needed.
- Provides consultation to faculty on student issues.
- Provides leadership in developing and supervising new programs
- Directs the faculty in course and curriculum development.
- Maintains the file for current syllabi for the division courses.
- Assists the division faculty in the development of both credit and non-credit courses to meet the needs of the students and community.
- Plans and implements program developments to achieve special departmental accreditations, when applicable.
- Responsible for acquisition and inventory of division equipment.
- Leads collaboration with other institutions such as, but not limited to, 2-year and 4-year colleges and universities.
- Assists in the development and implementation of academic policies and procedures.
- Assumes leadership in scheduling and coordinating advisory committee meetings.
- Administers the department within the guidelines of college policies, procedures, and the Professional Collective Bargaining Agreement.
- Assists in the planning and implementation of instructional staff development programs and activities.
- Provides leadership in the selection of personnel for the Arts and Sciences division.
- Evaluates faculty and Arts and Sciences staff.
- Plans, prepares for approval, and administers the departmental annual budget.
- Coordinates with the appropriate person in the development of marketing and public relations plans to promote student recruitment and retention.
- Coordinates responsibilities with the College as a whole to promote the College and fulfills the mission of the College.
- Attends administrative meetings of the College.
- Submits reports to the Vice President - Academics.
- Seeks grant opportunities appropriate for the division.
- Other similar duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation and Experience:
- A minimum of a master's degree in higher education, a teaching discipline, or a related field required.
- Minimum of 2 years increased management and supervisory experience.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Must be familiar with all aspects of community college academics, programs, faculty and employee development, and accreditation.
- Demonstrate leadership skills working with students, employees, and the public in an administrative capacity.
- Expertise in managing a division that is research-based and results-driven. Ability to gather and analyze statistical data.
- Strong communication (written and verbal), motivational, interpersonal, and team-building skills.
- Must demonstrate good judgment, tact, and have the ability to foster cooperation and collaboration and have the ability to be creative and innovative in administering programs and services and to motivate employees to work harmoniously in a complex organizational structure.
