DEAN - CAREER AND CONTINUING EDUCATION PROGRAMS
TRUMAN COLLEGE

Harry S Truman is seeking a Dean of Career and Continuing Education Programs. This position typically plans, implements, directs, and manages the strategic goals and objectives of Career and Continuing Education programs. These programs may include Career & Technical Education (CTE), Vocational Education, Workforce Development and other school-to-work programs.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Manages the department and its overall operations through direct supervision of key staff and provides necessary guidance of staff to ensure proper operation of programs.
  • Regularly evaluates part-time and full-time faculty and staff related to the programs. Plans and conducts staff meetings and training activities for division staff to keep them informed and to improve program operations.
  • Plans and develops implementation of a comprehensive Continuing Education program. Responsibilities include recruiting, evaluating training specialists, recommending personnel for employment and supervising staff.
  • Responsible for Career and Continuing Education Programs budget preparations and accountability. Develops and monitors annual department budgets based on history of expenditures, predicted enrollment and revenue, and current allocations. Seeks additional revenue by developing grants/proposals to local, state and federal agencies. Directs and coordinates the preparation and administration of same.
  • Writes proposals for federal, state and private funding and supervises the scheduling of all Continuing Education courses and other activities. Manages state grants for CTE. Ensures that grant mandates are adhered to, ensures that reports are submitted in compliance with grantor requirements, and monitors the grant budgets to ensure no overspending.
  • Works with the college to plan and execute the overall philosophy and goals of Continuing Education. Develops new courses, workshops and certificate programs for Continuing Education based on enrollment data analysis, market trends and community assessment.
  • Ensures that students have access to course and career advice and job placement opportunities.
  • Provides leadership in assessing business needs for new program initiatives and curriculum development. Establishes and maintains contacts with the private sector for the College's occupational programs.
  • Reviews and analyzes enrollment data, communicates results and plans strategies for continued success. Prepares detailed written reports for administrative use. Uses computer software to prepare memoranda and spreadsheet reports detailing activities and statistics.
  • Serves as weekend and/or evening administrator for the College and liaison between the college and outside entities.
  • Represents the college at the District Office as it relates to the delivery of Career and Continuing Education services.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's Degree from a regionally accredited institution and thirty (30) graduate hours in a related field required. Doctorate preferred.
  • Experience teaching in a higher education setting.
  • Active participation or exposure to higher education accreditation procedures, articulation processes and program review.
  • Experience in activities that focus on assessment of student learning.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and multiculturalism in one's work experience.
  • Experience preferred working within a unionized setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to create a learning environment that fosters student success.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop a technologically integrated environment that fosters innovation within a learning organization.
  • Experience in grant management such as Perkins, Workforce Investment Act (WIA), and other grant funds.
  • Knowledge and experience in program review and evaluation (ICCB).

The starting salary for this position is between $110,000.00 and $120,000.00.

Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as other factors such as internal equity.
