Job Overview:
The Database Engineer II is a key member responsible for the company's database environment. This role is responsible for the engineering and delivery of effective, scalable, and secure database solutions. This role is responsible for ensuring problems are quickly resolved and long-term solutions are developed to prevent recurrence. This DBA works under the guidance of more senior team members and provides support to other infrastructure and application development/support teams.
Job Responsibilities:
- Gather business requirements through collaboration with other IT and business teams
- Perform activities related to the day-to-day administration of transactional databases to ensure availability
- Decide appropriate solutions through applying technical knowledge, solutions may range from upgrades, patches, backup and recovery, monitoring or configuration
- Communicate determined solutions to team members and direct management
- Evaluate and execute requests and work orders
- Participates in the implementation and optimization of enterprise infrastructure solutions, ensuring alignment with the existing technologies.
- Applies technical expertise in decision making and in the resolution of problems which are complex and technical in nature
- Preventative maintenance measures are applied to ensure incidents don't occur in the environment.
- Collaborate with teams to promote automation and develop consistent technical build, implementation and support processes.
- Utilize standard enterprise tools to develop or implement infrastructure hardware, software or other technical components.
- Observe and comply with company change and incident management procedures.
- Performs other duties as required.
Job Requirements:
Education/ Certifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related discipline or a combination of relevant IT experience and education
Experience:
- 5-6 years' experience in assigned, specific technical DBMS
- 5-6 years' experience working in large scale database environments (5000 employees or large-scale service provider minimum)
- Experience with writing SQL and scripting (e.g., Powershell, Ignio, Korn, etc.).
- Prior application programming experience is preferred.
- Experience with server virtualization tools from such vendors as VMWare, Microsoft, Red Hat, Oracle, Amazon, Google.
- Experience with Cloud hosting from such vendors as Amazon, Microsoft, Google, Oracle, and IBM.
- Experience using tools for monitoring, capacity planning, analysis and performance tuning.
- Experience implementing database solutions in a large-scale environment.
- Must have solid experience backing up and recovering databases.
- Experience in designing and implementing scalable solutions is preferred.
- Lead experience preferred

- Ability to collaborate across teams to achieve results
- Ability to create well written technical documentation.
- Good judgment is required for this position as there may be times when direct supervision may not be immediately available.
Work Environment:
Remote Role:
This position is classified as remote where the associate will perform remote work from their primary residence. Remote associates are welcome to work from the office but are not required to do so. While remote associates are not required to work from an office on a regular basis, they may be required to come to the office or other UNFI locations for necessary business reasons or if directed to do so by their manager.
Travel (minor):
- This position may require the associate to travel to company offices, distribution centers, or other locations for specific meetings or other business reasons.

- Most work is performed in a temperature-controlled office environment.
- Incumbent may sit for long periods of time at a desk or computer terminal.

- Incumbent may use calculators, keyboards, telephones, and other office equipment in the course of a normal workday.
- Stooping, bending, twisting, and reaching may be required in the completion of job duties.
