Full Job Description
About You:

You thrive in a vibrant, entrepreneurial organization where your ideas are valued. You are motivated by goals, a self-starter, and enjoy wearing multiple hats in a fast-growing fintech environment.

The Database Application Developer designs, develops, tests, deploys, and supports database code powering Propel's financial data applications, ETL processes, and reporting solutions. The role converts business requirements into reliable schemas, queries, stored procedures, views, transformations, controls, and reporting datasets across MySQL/RDS and Snowflake. The ideal candidate combines strong SQL development skills with excellent logical and analytical reasoning, attention to detail, and a commitment to data quality, security, performance, and operational reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain SQL, DDL, DML, views, stored procedures, functions, Streams, Tasks, and other database components
  • Design and support staging, core, supporting, reporting, and analytical data structures
  • Build ETL/ELT processes that extract, validate, transform, reconcile, and load data from upstream application systems
  • Translate business rules, source-to-target mappings, and reporting requirements into accurate, testable database logic
  • Implement data-quality checks, reconciliation controls, logging, error handling, auditability, and rollback procedures
  • Diagnose and resolve data, SQL, pipeline, and performance issues using evidence-based root-cause analysis
  • Tune queries, procedures, data models, indexes, clustering, and workload patterns for performance and cost efficiency
  • Apply secure development practices, including least privilege, access controls, masking, retention, and protection of sensitive data
  • Deliver changes through GitHub, pull requests, peer review, testing, and controlled deployment processes
  • Collaborate with application developers, data and analytics engineers, QA, platform engineering, security, risk, compliance, finance, and operations
  • Contribute to database standards, documentation, modernization, production support, incident response, and continuous improvement

Requirements

Must Have

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical discipline or equivalent practical experience
  • 5+ years of professional experience designing, developing, testing, deploying, and supporting database code powering financial data applications, ETL processes, and reporting solutions
  • Strong logical and analytical reasoning: able to break down complex problems, identify dependencies, test hypotheses, detect anomalies, and reach evidence-based conclusions
  • Snowflake, dbt, Streams, Tasks, dynamic tables, or other modern data-platform experience
  • Structured troubleshooting skills, including tracing data issues across source systems, transformations, database code, and reports
  • Professional experience developing production SQL and database applications
  • Strong understanding of relational database concepts, data modelling, joins, transactions, constraints, indexing, concurrency, and query optimization
  • Experience writing complex SQL, stored procedures, views, functions, and data transformations
  • Experience with at least one relational database platform such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or Oracle
  • Experience with version control, code review, testing, validation, and controlled deployments
  • Ability to translate ambiguous requirements into clear, maintainable, and testable technical solutions
  • Financial services, lending, payments, banking, reporting, or other regulated-data experience
  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail when working with financial, customer, or other sensitive data

Nice to Have

  • Amazon RDS, AWS, cloud database migration, or managed application-platform experience
  • ETL/ELT pipelines, source-to-target mappings, incremental processing, and reconciliation frameworks
  • Data governance, masking, row access policies, classification, retention, lineage, and audit controls
  • CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, observability, incident management, or automated testing
  • Python, Java, APIs, or database-backed application development
  • Dimensional modelling, star schemas, fact and dimension datasets, or semantic layers

Benefits to Joining Propel
