Position Summary

As a Database Administrator (DBA) in our North American Service Delivery group, you will be responsible for designing, developing and deploying highly secure database solutions for our national and international government customers. In this position, you will design, develop and provide ongoing support and tune and optimize their performance to ensure they remain highly available, reliable, and secure.

Core Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and maintain database systems to meet organizational requirements. Collaborate with System Architects to plan DBMS capacity and hardware requirements.
  • Install and configure the production system locally in advance of shipment to customer site. Train and support Developers and Local Service Providers (LSPs).
  • Define database migration strategy and design replication topology and methodology. Develop migration procedures/scripts and perform the migration.
  • Monitor database performance, identify issues, and optimize database performance.
  • Ensure database security by implementing access controls, encryption, and other security measures.
  • Develop and implement backup and recovery plans to protect data integrity.
  • Provide support for database-related issues, including troubleshooting and resolving problems.
  • Create and maintain documentation for database configurations, schemas, changes, processes, and procedures.


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • Legally eligible to work in Canada
  • Fluent in English (speak, read, write)
  • Able to obtain (in a timely manner) and maintain Government of Canada Secret level security clearance
  • Able to travel approx. 2 weeks/year on average
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science (or related program) or equivalent years of additional relevant professional experience
  • Knowledge of the following:
    • Database management principles
    • Data modeling
    • Database tuning, performance and optimization
    • Database security practices
    • Database backup and recovery
    • Basic networking concepts including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, network security practices.
  • 4+ years of experience in database administration
  • Experience with the following technologies:
    • Operating Systems: Linux, Windows Server
    • Database Management Systems: SQL, Oracle PL/SQL, PostgreSQL PL/pgSQL and Bash
    • Virtualization: VMware
    • Containerization/Orchestration: Docker
    • Deployment/Configuration: Puppet
    • SQL and Scripting: SQL, Bash
    • Security: Active Directory, Kerberos, LDAP, TLS
    • Tools: Git

Preferred Qualifications
  • Oracle Certified Professional (OCP), Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, or similar certifications are assets.
  • Experience with the following technologies:
    • Database Management Systems: Mongo DB, NoSQL (Elasticsearch)
    • Virtualization: HyperV, XCP-ng
    • Containerization/Orchestration: Kubernetes
    • Deployment/Configuration: Terraform, Ansible, Bicep, Helmchart
    • SQL and Scripting: Python, PowerShell
    • Security: Bitlocker, LUKS
    • Cloud Platforms: AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database
    • Tools: tcpdump, Wireshark, PowerCLI, Sysinternals Suite, BIRT
