Full Job Description
UPMC is looking for a Database Administrator Intermediate to join their team. This position will be primarily remote/work from home however on some occasions be required to be ON-SITE for security conferences. We are seeking individuals with previous experience or knowledge of T-SQL development, Data Manipulation & Relational Database expertise. Description
Under the general direction of the management team and senior staff, this mid-level position assist with day to day support of database systems. Maintain systems, identify and resolve issues or problems that arise within the database software with minimal supervision. This position will assume On-Call support responsibilities on a rotational basis.

Responsibilities:
Database monitoring - Continuously tracking performance, uptime, and configuration changes using remote monitoring tools; proactively scanning for issues.
Data integrity management - Ensuring data consistency, enforcing relationships, and preventing unauthorized access.
Backup & recovery - Configuring and validating backup systems, planning disaster recovery, and ensuring recoverability without physical access.
Security administration - Managing permissions, user accounts, and security protocols to protect data in distributed environments.
Performance tuning - Analyzing slow queries, optimizing indexes, and adjusting configurations to maintain efficiency.
System upgrades & patching - Applying patches, upgrading database versions, and migrating data to new servers.
Collaboration with dev & ops teams - Working with developers and system administrators through virtual channels to support deployments and troubleshoot issues.
Training & documentation - Training new employees and maintaining documentation for remote processes.

Qualifications
• Typically has a solid IT background either through education or practical experience.
• Typically has a solid understanding of database concepts through course work and typically has 3 years of practical DBA experience.
• Solid understanding of security principles.
• Solid understanding of database environments supported.
• Proficient with query language for RDBMS supported.
• Highly driven to self-learn and understand DBA role and expectations of the position.
• Works independently on assignments and contributes to the team frequently.
• Proficient in communications with customers, peers and management.
