Full Job Description
MLB is looking for a Data Visualization Engineer based in its New York City headquarters. This role will transform MLB's extensive business data into accessible, intuitive, and reliable interactive dashboards and reports that benefit the baseball industry. This position will use a mix of data engineering, analytics, and front-end development skills to empower business owners with actionable insights that drive strategic decisions. Strong familiarity with the nature of MLB's businesses is required to translate complex data into actionable insights and next steps. The ideal candidate will be passionate about baseball and prefer working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, and collaborative environment.

Qualified candidates will be eager to leverage their technical skills to contribute to MLB's data initiatives and research programs. They will have a demonstrable ability to collect, analyze, and the ability to weave quantitative and qualitative data into compelling stories that drive consensus and action among Club and MLB stakeholders. They will have experience with the Google Cloud Platform (incl. Looker), Tableau, and prototyping and building with visualization libraries (e.g., D3.js, React, Looker Extension Framework). Competitive candidates will have strong knowledge of data-relevant programming languages (e.g., SQL, Python, R), and building and modeling data pipelines (e.g., dbt). Applicants should be familiar with macro trends within the sports, media, and entertainment industries. Most importantly, qualified candidates will possess a strong work ethic and willingness to learn.

  • Maintain and scale data pipelines that facilitate essential data visualizations
  • Partner with business owners to translate their needs into effective visualizations
  • Effectively build relationships and collaborate with Club partners to meet their needs
  • Collaborate with engineers, analysts, and business partners to improve processes and communicate results
  • Ensure data accuracy, integrity, and accessibility for users of all technical abilities

Qualifications & Skills
  • An undergraduate degree in an analytical field (economics, mathematics, statistics) or computer science
  • 3-5 years of professional experience working in a data science or analytics-related field, with demonstrable examples (internships count)
  • Strong understanding of UX/UI principles and information architecture specifically tailored for data consumption
  • Knowledge of data science and analysis techniques, along with relevant programming languages (e.g., SQL, Python, R)
  • Experience with visualization languages and frameworks (e.g. D3.js, React, TypeScript)
  • Experience prototyping and designing dashboards for widespread consumption
  • Familiarity with machine learning concepts and techniques is a plus
  • Ability to coordinate and organize multiple projects and analyses simultaneously
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical abilities
  • Familiarity with baseball and macro trends within the sports and entertainment industry

Salary Range: $125,000 - $150,000 (Base Salary + Bonus)
