Summary

This position is located at US Mint, Office of Strategy and Performance - Program, Performance and Analysis Branch. As a Data Scientist, you will serve as an advisor to leadership at the Office level coordinating the efforts of other Bureau professionals and contractors in solving complex data-management issues and problems for a wide range of systems, applications, and customers.

As a Data Scientist, you will:

  • Plan, develop, implement, and administer systems for the acquisition, storage, and retrieval of data. Examples of data accessed include demographic data; program outcomes; and program utilization; website user behavior via online analytics, email, and traditional marketing data; qualitative and quantitative customer research and customer feedback through online surveys and call center data; economic indicators; and expenditure data.
  • Conduct observational analyses using software and/or programming languages such as R, Python, or SAS to explore/group data, test hypotheses, predict outcomes, and inform decisions.
  • Translate the results of analysis into clear, actionable communications that equip Bureau decision makers to make informed, data-driven decisions about digital product development and IT strategy.
  • Independently analyses data, applying and explaining the statistical and mathematical principles used.

  • Have your salary sent to a financial institution of your choice by Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer.
  • If you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959, certify that you have registered with the Selective Service System or are exempt from having to do so.
  • Go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form I-9. Federal law requires verification of the identity and employment eligibility of all new hires in the U.S.
  • May be required to file a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report within 30 days of appointment and annually from then on.
  • May be required to undergo an income tax verification.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. To ensure full credit for your work experience, please indicate dates of employment by month/day/year and indicate number of hours worked per week on your resume.

This position has an Individual Occupational Requirement. You must meet the Basic Requirements and Specialized experience described below.

Basic Requirements:

A. Degree: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position.

or

B. Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown n paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.

AND

Specialized Experience:

For the GS-14, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:

- Locating, extracting, transforming and loading data from multiple sources for analysis; AND

- Using statistical analysis to develop, manage, and maintain models, dashboards, and reports; AND

- Creating, updating, and distributing data visualizations using business intelligence software packages.

Education

Education Requirements:

The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. If you are qualifying based on foreign education, you must submit proof of creditability of education as evaluated by a credentialing agency. Refer to the OPM instructions.
