Job Description

The GEOINT Data Scientist will support the maintenance and implementation of the data architecture for all Program data. This position requires experience with databases, cloud architectures, and compliance with data standards. This position is responsible for maintaining data backend workflows that allow for the movement of data across security domains and across systems. This position will require adaptability and creative solutioning for peer and government stakeholders.

Day-to-day tasks may include but not be limited to:
  • Assist the team in the creation of the necessary data pipelines to store and process data related to emergent sensors and platforms. This includes the creation of any database tables and schemas, establishing relevant data health alert, and the setup of data pipelines to support extract, transform, and Load (ETL)of all data related to the emergent sensors.
  • Develop and document workflows to enable API-based movement of data related to the sensors between data platforms as directed by the Government.
  • Ensure all sensor data adheres to the Governments directed data schemas formats, and governance requirement.
  • Assess potential differences in metadata, data format, and data structure characteristics in regards to changes to databases, schemas, APIs, and other ETL related processes for the ingestion and movement of data when integrating into the existing data operations pipeline.
  • Determine how to pre-process and standardize the data to match existing data standards or to be transformed into a useable state for labeling and model testing purposes. This may involve converting between file format types or tiling full-size images into specific sizes or geospatial bounds (chipping), orthorectification, or other types of data standardization, transformation, or manipulation.


Required Skills and Education

  • Over 5 years of expert level SQL or NoSQL database development, administration and scripting experience, specifically within cloud architecture.
  • Deep experience working APIs to query systems and migrate data successfully.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills to articulate challenging technical concepts to lay and expert technical audiences is imperative.
  • Experience with programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, or Java
  • Experience developing and sustaining operational data pipelines supporting multiple data formats and interfaces.
  • Comfortability implementing processes, standards, and tools within an organization based on the Scaled Agile Framework for Enterprise. (We may be flexible based upon how much relevant time / experience the qualified individual possesses working in an Agile environment.
  • Experience developing dynamic visualizations to monitor or track operational work, pipelines, etc.
  • Current TS/SCI Security clearance with ability to obtain a CI Poly if necessary.

  • Strongly desire experience working with NGA IT enterprise (or NGA CORE, NGA MLOps, etc.)

  • Experience developing dynamic visualizations to monitor availability, currency, and volumetrics of operational data pipelines
