The Role:

ModernaTX, Inc. seeks a Data Scientist for its Cambridge, Massachusetts location.

Here's What You'll Do:
  • Apply machine learning and natural language processing (NLP) to enhance document processing and understanding in support of regulatory and drug development processes.
  • Create and deploy AI-powered automation solutions for handling regulatory, legal, and clinical documents.
  • Oversee the complete AI pipeline for document processing.
  • Improve existing NLP solutions and develop new ones for tasks such as document understanding, information extraction, and text generation.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including business partners and software engineers, to deliver solutions through exploratory data analysis, visualization, and machine learning.
  • Monitor and maintain current systems, implement new features, and stay current with advancements in AI and NLP technologies.
  • Extract structured data from image files.
  • Create AI-driven solutions to standardize and extract tables, utilizing advanced optical character recognition (OCR) technologies.
  • Automate intricate document digitization processes.
  • Apply AI-based image processing for classifying scanned documents, detecting bounding boxes, recognizing checkboxes, and automatically redacting personally identifiable information (PII) and confidential commercial information (CCI).
  • Develop computer vision models for document segmentation and enhancement.
  • Enhance NLP and computer vision models for deployment in production settings.
  • Increase inference speed and integrate models into regulatory and compliance workflow systems.
  • Expand AI pipelines to support enterprise-scale use.
  • Examine both structured and unstructured document data to gain insights, identify anomalies, and enhance AI models.
  • Utilize statistical and machine learning methods for trend analysis, compliance monitoring, and decision-making support in regulatory and clinical settings.

Here's What You'll Bring to the Table:

Minimum requirements:
  • Requires a Master's degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems or related field and 5 years of experience in the position offered or as a Machine Learning Engineer/Programmer, Technology Analyst or related position.
  • Alternatively, employer will accept a PhD degree in fields specified and 3 years of the specified experience.
  • 3 years of experience must include:
    • Document AI leveraging natural language processing;
    • OCR recognition and table extraction;
    • Computer vision for document analysis;
    • Model deployment and optimization for enterprise-scale use;
    • Analytics and exploratory data analysis using statistical and machine learning methods;
    • Management and processing of large-scale datasets across various database systems;
    • Python, Pandas and scikit-learn; and
    • Deep learning models including PyTorch.
  • May telecommute up to 30% of the time.


The salary range for this role is $121,600 to $194,500. This range reflects the lowest to highest salary we, in good faith, believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. The minimum target pay for this particular position, based on its primary location, is $165,600 to $194,500. An individual's placement within the range will depend on several factors, including but not limited to specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, performance, and business or organizational needs.
