DESCRIPTION

Data Organizer - Remote

The American Association of University Professors(AAUP) is looking for a Data Organizer to join our growing organizing department, to be filled as soon as possible. AAUP is a fast-growing union of higher education workers. We are mobilizing the higher ed sector against increasing partisan attacks that undermine academic freedom and attacks on important gains of the civil rights movement. Our goal is to defend the higher ed sector while also leading the fight for fair wages, job security, academic freedom, an end to student debt, and expanded collective bargaining rights for higher education workers. AAUP is looking for an individual who will help transform the Association into an organized, fighting union.

The data organizer will help staff across different new union and contract campaigns to create systems and processes of data collection and analysis. The data organizer will also work with field staff. This position requires occasional travel throughout the United States and reports to the Director of Organizing and Services.

Duties and Responsibilities

The position will include the following responsibilities:
  • Manage and optimize campaign data systems to ensure organizers and workers have access to accurate, timely, and actionable information.
  • Collaborate with the database IT team to identify system improvements, troubleshoot issues, and implement platform enhancements that meet organizing needs.
  • Develop and maintain data collection processes, dashboards, trackers, reports, Google Sheets, and other tools that support organizing campaigns and strategic decision-making.
  • Translate campaign data into clear, accessible formats that help organizers track progress, identify opportunities, and inform campaign strategy.
  • Monitor data quality and integrity by supporting data entry, maintaining data hygiene, and implementing best practices for data management.
  • Train and support chapter leaders on use of the database.
  • Provide technical and analytical support for special projects and other organizational priorities as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in union data support, campaign data management, or a related role.
  • Full proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets, including pivot tables, formulas, cross-sheet calculations, data analysis, and data management workflows.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and solve complex problems in a fast-paced organizing environment.
  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience in data support for unions.
  • Valid driver's license and the willingness and ability to travel occasionally throughout the United States and work long, irregular hours and weekends as needed.
  • Experience using CRM or membership database systems (e.g., Salesforce, Action Builder, BroadStripes, or similar platforms).
  • Experience supporting union organizing campaigns and a demonstrated commitment to the mission of the labor movement.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work across technical and non-technical teams.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with union membership data systems.
  • Experience as an organizer, particularly in higher education organizing union campaigns.
  • Knowledge of higher education job classification and workplace issues.
  • Knowledge of information security practices, data protection, and risk management.
  • Experience supporting platform implementations, feature rollouts, or vendor coordination.

REQUIREMENTS

Compensation

Salary range: $75,543.55 to $85,074.31. AAUP offers a generous benefits package that includes health, dental, and vision insurance; paid sick days; paid vacations days; and 401(K).

Position Classification

This is a full-time Associate position included in the staff union bargaining unit. This is an exempt position and is not eligible for overtime pay.

Work Location

This position is remote and does not require relocation. However, there will be some travel to AAUP national events and possibly some travel to campaigns.
