Full Job Description
Understanding the Role

The Data, Information, and Assessment Systems Specialist will report to the Secondary School Principal and to the Senior Director of Secondary Teaching and Learning for school-wide and network-wide data and systems needs. The Data, Information, and Assessment Systems Specialist is responsible for the production, organization, and analysis of the many types of data required to support our student's achievement. The goal is to have systems that seamlessly connect our educational data to generate powerful analytics to educators at Challenge Charter School.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Serve as a member of the school's leadership team
  • Actively collaborate with the school-wide Data and Information Systems Specialist
  • Actively manage our Student Information System (PowerSchool), and expand schoolwide usage of and fluency with this tool
  • Serve as liaison between the school and our identity management consulting company
  • Serve as the primary point of contact and resident "expert" to support school teams with implementing and using our SIS, LMS, and other educational platforms/programs
  • Collaborate with instructional leadership team members to design, create, and implement internally-created assessments
  • Collect, sort, analyze, and present scholar academic data in a variety of formats for student action planning, monthly board reports, etc.
  • Plan, facilitate data days and other professional learning opportunities where needed
  • Review and present the K-5 data in various ways- NYCDOE, NYSED, BOCES, and compliance reports to the elementary administrative team
  • Assist with GradeBook, Progress Reports, Report Cards, ongoing student achievement data collection, and reporting and analysis
  • Develop & maintain user roles & permissions (including onboarding and offboarding) within our education technology platforms
  • Collaborate with school-based Ops team to ensure proper setup, cleanup, and protocols for data entry
  • Support and coordinate troubleshooting for school leaders, teachers and staff across data systems, applications and reporting requests
  • Create, maintain, and adjust master and student schedules
  • Additional duties as assigned


Skills, Qualifications, and/or Competencies Required:

  • Strong knowledge of K-12 school systems and understanding of ways in which core data and digital systems function and can be leveraged to improve outcomes for students
  • 4+ years of proven experience designing, deploying, and managing core information systems
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Technology or related field or equivalent work experience
  • Working technical knowledge of data modeling techniques including conceptual, logical, and physical
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent listening and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to conduct research into systems issues and products as required
  • Ability to communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language
  • Highly self-motivated and directed
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Proven analytical and creative problem-solving abilities
