Full Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
Hands-on technical specialist responsible for implementing and operating Atlan as the enterprise data catalog and lineage platform. Working alongside the Data Governance Platforms Manager, this role turns the catalog/lineage roadmap into working capability - cataloging assets, building lineage, automating governance through workflows, standing up integrations, and packaging certified data products. The role pairs practical Data Catalog engineering skill with insurance industry domain knowledge, and a forward-looking focus on using AI tooling and the Model Context Protocol (MCP) to connect Atlan to AI agents.

Key Responsibilities
• Cataloguing & metadata - catalogue assets across source systems; maintain the business glossary, classifications, tags and certification statuses; drive metadata completeness and quality.
• Lineage - implement and maintain business and technical lineage (including column-level where supported); ensure minimum lineage depth for certified releases with evidence attached.
• Workflows & automation - design and operate Atlan workflows and playbooks for governance, enrichment and approvals; automate repetitive stewardship tasks.
• Integrations & connectors - configure and maintain connectors across the data estate (e.g. Snowflake, dbt, BI tools like PowerBI); build custom integrations via the Atlan API/SDK; monitor and resolve connector issues with engineering teams.
• Data products - build and publish certified data products with embedded lineage, ownership, signed off definitions and reference-data alignment.
• AI & MCP integration - connect Atlan to AI agents using MCP and the API; build AI-assisted enrichment and natural-language discovery; operationalise agentic workflows with appropriate guardrails and audit trails.
• AI tooling & agent building - use AI tools such as Claude to build reusable skills, agents and automations that accelerate cataloguing, metadata enrichment and governance tasks.
• Domain alignment & adoption - apply insurance domain knowledge to glossary, reference data and classification design; onboard stewards/owners and support active usage of governance steps.

Required Qualifications
• Hands-on Atlan experience (or a comparable platform such as Collibra/Alation) across cataloguing, glossary, lineage, classifications and workflows.
• Practical experience with catalogue connectors and integrations across modern data stacks.
• APIs and scripting - comfortable with a platform's REST API/SDK and automation.
• Solid data management foundations - metadata, lineage, reference/master data, stewardship, data contracts.
• Insurance industry domain knowledge and experience, with the ability to translate core insurance concepts into catalogue structure.
• Clear communicator who can drive metadata quality and adoption with technical and business stakeholders.
• Required Experience: 12+ years

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience integrating data platforms with AI/LLM tooling, and familiarity with MCP or comparable agent-integration frameworks.
• Hands-on use of AI tools such as Claude to build skills, agents and automations.
• Experience building data products; SQL fluency; familiarity with cloud data platforms (e.g. Snowflake) and dbt.
• Familiarity with insurance data standards (e.g. ACORD) and relevant regulatory/reporting requirements.
