Data Engineer III. As our Data Engineer III, you will play a key role in designing, developing, and implementing enterprise data solutions that transform complex data into actionable insights for state agencies. Working closely with business partners, technical teams, and project stakeholders, you will deliver scalable, reliable, and cost-effective data engineering solutions that support informed decision-making across state government.
Responsibilities Include:• Provide technical analysis and design for complex data engineering and business intelligence solutions.
• Design innovative, scalable, and cost-effective data solutions that meet customer and business requirements.
• Create, maintain, and present technical design documentation for customer review and approval.
• Develop, test, implement, and support enterprise data engineering solutions using industry best practices.
• Create and maintain technical and solution documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
• Provide production support for enterprise data solutions, including participation in 24x7 support as needed.
• Prepare work effort estimates for complex projects and assist in planning and coordinating project activities.
• Participate in Agile development processes to deliver high-quality solutions.
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to other Data Engineers on standards, procedures, and best practices.
• Collaborate with customers and cross-functional teams to ensure solutions align with business needs and strategic goals.
The Data Engineer III must demonstrate excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills while building strong working relationships with state agencies and technical partners. This role requires the ability to lead technical efforts on complex initiatives, mentor peers, and deliver high-quality data solutions that advance the State's mission of providing reliable, secure, and data-driven services to North Dakota citizens.
The position can be based anywhere in the United States except for California, but preference will be given to candidates living in North Dakota or a surrounding border community. If selected candidate lives within a 50 miles radius of NDIT offices in Bismarck or Fargo North Dakota they will work on site one day a week. Otherwise, this position will work remotely full time.
To be considered for this role you must have the following:
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of three years of experience in data engineering or software development. Candidates must demonstrate proven experience designing, developing, implementing, and supporting complex data engineering, data integration, data warehouse, or business intelligence solutions
Additional work experience as written can be substituted for the education requirement on a year for year basis.
