Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain streaming and replication pipelines (CDC, Kafka, Materialize)
  • Manage schemas, topics, and data contracts to ensure consistency
  • Provision and manage infrastructure as code using Terraform, Kubernetes, and Docker
  • Configure clusters, access controls, and role-based permissions
  • Own CI/CD pipelines and deployment tooling to facilitate safe shipping
  • Build monitoring, alerting, and observability systems
  • Participate in on-call rotations and drive durable fixes for incidents
  • Write and maintain runbooks and architecture documentation

Full Job Description
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Build and maintain streaming and replication pipelines (CDC, Kafka, Materialize) that move data reliably from source systems into the platform.
  • Manage schemas, topics, and data contracts (Schema Registry, Protobuf/Avro) to keep producers and consumers consistent and governed.
  • Provision and manage infrastructure as code (Terraform, Kubernetes, Docker) across shared environments.
  • Configure clusters, access controls, and role-based permissions for shared platform resources.
  • Own CI/CD pipelines and deployment tooling (GitHub Actions) so teams can ship safely and quickly.
  • Build monitoring, alerting, and observability (Prometheus, Grafana, PagerDuty) to catch problems before users do.
  • Participate in on-call rotations, investigate incidents, and drive durable (not band-aid) fixes with clear post-incident follow-through.
  • Write and maintain runbooks, architecture docs, and platform guides so teams can self-serve.
  • Participate in design reviews and RFCs to align platform solutions with business and engineering requirements.
  • Expertise in Kafka, streaming systems, Python (or similar), SQL, and cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP/Azure).


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in computer/software engineering, computer science, Maths or Physics is required
  • 5+ years prior experience in a data engineering or data-heavy backend software engineering role
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time, ongoing basis without the need for current or future employer sponsorship

  • Job requires the ability to use vision, adjust focus and work on a standard computer screen
  • Job may require extended sitting or standing, use of standard office equipment
