Full Job Description
The Data Developer is responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing SQL Server databases and related applications. The primary focus will be writing efficient SQL queries, creating database structures, and building functionalities that meet the requirements of the company's applications while meeting performance and security standards.

Note: This is a Level III position

Key responsibilities:
  • Database Design: Work closely with stakeholders, including business analysts and application developers, to understand the data requirements; Design the database schema, defining tables, relationships, and constraints to ensure data integrity.
  • Query Writing: Writing efficient SQL queries; Construct queries for data retrieval, manipulation, and reporting, ensuring that the queries are optimized for performance and maintainability.
  • Stored Procedures and Functions: Create stored procedures, user-defined functions, and triggers to encapsulate business logic within the database. These database objects enhance code reusability and help maintain consistent application behavior.
  • Indexing and Performance Optimization: Identify and create appropriate indexes to improve query performance; Analyze query execution plans and optimize queries to reduce response times and enhance overall database performance.
  • Data Migration and ETL: Responsible for data migration between different systems or integrating data from various sources into the SQL Server database using Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) processes.
  • Application Integration: Collaborate with application developers to integrate database functionality seamlessly into applications. This may involve accessing APIs, designing data access layers, and ensuring data consistency.
  • Security: Implement security measures to protect sensitive data and ensure that access to the database is controlled according to the company's policies and best practices.
  • Data Validation and Cleansing: Validating and cleansing data to maintain data accuracy and consistency to ensure the database contains reliable and high-quality information.
  • Troubleshooting and Bug Fixing: Identifying and resolving database-related issues, such as data inconsistencies, performance bottlenecks, or application errors that are tied to database interactions.
  • Version Control and Deployment: Using version control systems to manage database scripts and ensure changes are tracked and documented; Participation in the deployment process to move database changes from development to staging and production environments.
  • Performance Monitoring: Monitoring database performance and identifying potential areas for improvement using various monitoring tools and techniques to proactively address performance issues.
  • Documentation: Maintaining comprehensive documentation of database designs, schemas, and queries is essential for knowledge sharing and future development.

Required Experience: 10+ years of experience in data development. The developer must be considered an expert in database design, optimization, and performance tuning and have experience in data modeling and ETL development.
