Minimum qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10 years of experience in program or project management in mission-critical facilities (e.g., data centers, chip fabs), design-build, or real estate development environments.
  • 5 years of experience in a leadership role.

Preferred qualifications:
  • Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Construction Management, or a relevant field.
  • 10 years of experience managing cross-functional or cross-team projects.
  • Experience in design, construction, and commissioning of facilities with medium voltage and low voltage electrical distribution systems.
  • Experience managing "owner's" teams to deliver industrial-type capital projects, including engineering, construction management, and project controls.
  • Experience with data center equipment/environments (e.g., switchgear, generators, chillers, cooling towers, etc.) and a strong understanding of start-up/commissioning processes.

As Google expands its operations, we're seeking a highly motivated and experienced Data Center Construction Services Area Manager (DCS Area Manager) to lead the design, construction, and delivery of data center projects in the NA-W region of North America. This includes a campus in MDN, RED, HTO, VCN, and several upcoming future locations in the Texas area. This role requires a leader with a proven track record in managing construction projects within a changing dynamic environment.

In this role, you will oversee a team of program managers, cost and schedule leads, safety personnel, and engineers, just to name a few, ensuring the successful execution of both new construction and capital improvement projects.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with external stakeholders, including leadership from key vendors, trades, and commissioning agents, to foster strong relationships, proactively identify potential risks and opportunities, and ensure alignment on project objectives.
  • Drive project delivery strategy and effectively communicate it to internal teams and stakeholders; drive alignment around key milestones, workflows, and critical path management for large capital improvement, greenfield, and brownfield projects.
  • Provide leadership and development opportunities to internal teams consisting of project management and engineering professionals. Oversee project schedule and cost control activities, ensuring adherence to program-level controls, safety, and quality initiatives.
  • Optimize resource allocation across the project portfolio, proactively identify and mitigate potential issues that could impact project timelines or budgets, and maintain a forward-looking perspective on resource needs, ensuring that master planning, utilities, design engagement, and equipment supply chain remain ahead of project demand.
