Minimum qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in computing infrastructure, networking, operating systems, or hardware.
  • 5 years of experience managing a technical team.
  • Ability to work non-standard hours, including working weekends, night shifts, holidays and on shift-based schedules as required.

Preferred qualifications:
  • Experience working with third-party colocation providers
  • Experience leading and managing projects from initiation to completion and directing operations management initiatives
  • Comfort with ambiguity and shifting priorities


About the job

The Global Server Operations team is responsible for monitoring the physical infrastructure behind Google's powerful search technology. As a Hardware Operations Manager, you will manage a team of Data Center Technicians. You will oversee the quality installation of server hardware and components and take charge of complicated installations/troubleshooting.

The Hardware Operations Manager role involves managing a technical team and overseeing data center and facility operations to meet organizational goals and Service Level Objectives (SLOs). Key responsibilities include hiring, coaching, and developing staff, setting team priorities, and partnering with stakeholders to implement short- and long-term strategies. The manager will execute security and operational procedures, analyze trends for improvement, and perform preventative maintenance and repairs on equipment and infrastructure.

  • Oversee the computing and networking operations of a data center site(s). Ensure SLOs are met and team performance is aligned to those goals.
  • Hire, coach, and develop a team of technical staff to meet objectives. Weekend, evening or off-hours management support may be required.
  • Identify problems and create solutions for computing and network architecture.
  • Work with others to set and implement short-term and long-term strategy for the site and ensure data center related priorities are consistent with company objectives.
  • Take responsibility for the management and implementation of multiple projects for your team.
