Role Overview
We are looking for a highly skilled Data Architect to design and implement an enterprise-wide data architecture that aligns with business and Enterprise Data Program goals. This role will be responsible for defining and managing data models within a Delta Lakehouse architecture, ensuring scalability, performance, and integrity. This position will also play a pivotal role in the implementation and continuous improvement of enterprise data management practices across the organization.
The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in data modeling, including Star Schema, Snowflake Schema, and Data Vault, along with a strong understanding of data management principles such as metadata management, data quality, and data stewardship. Excellent analytical and communication skills are essential to work closely with business stakeholders and technical teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop enterprise data models to support business intelligence, analytics, and operational reporting.
- Define and implement best practices for data modeling in a lakehouse environment, ensuring models effectively support business needs.
- Architect data structures for performance, scalability, and governance, leveraging concepts such as Star Schema, Snowflake Schema, and Data Vault.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand reporting, analytical, and operational data needs, ensuring models align with business objectives.
- Work closely with Data Engineers to translate logical data models into optimized physical data models in Microsoft Fabric and Delta Lake.
- Develop data governance frameworks, including metadata management, data lineage tracking, and data quality assurance.
- Define and maintain canonical data models for key business domains, ensuring consistency across the organization.
- Guide ETL and ELT strategies to ensure data integrity and optimal performance within Microsoft Fabric's Medallion Architecture.
- Establish and document data modeling standards, ensuring adoption across engineering teams.
- Review and optimize existing data models, identifying opportunities to improve performance, maintainability, and business alignment.
- Advise on the selection and implementation of data modeling tools and data management solutions.
Key Qualifications
- Seven or more years of experience in data architecture, data modeling, or database design.
- Expertise in data modeling methodologies, including dimensional modeling, Star Schema, Snowflake Schema, relational modeling, and Data Vault.
- Deep understanding of relational and non-relational databases, including SQL, NoSQL, and Delta Lake architecture.
- Strong familiarity with Microsoft Fabric, Delta Lake, and Medallion Architecture.
- Experience designing data models for enterprise analytics, reporting, and operational use cases.
- Strong SQL skills for data modeling, query optimization, and data analysis.
- Hands-on experience with ETL and ELT processes and integration strategies.
- Understanding of cloud-based data architectures, preferably within Azure, including Azure Data Lake, Azure Synapse Analytics, and Azure Databricks.
- Self-starter with strong analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to translate business needs into effective data models.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with business and technical teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience implementing Data Vault.
- Familiarity with data management and governance tools such as Alation, Collibra, Ataccama, or Atlan.
- Knowledge of Kusto Query Language for querying data logs in Azure environments.
- Experience with graph data modeling and NoSQL databases such as Azure Cosmos DB.
- Exposure to machine learning feature stores and analytical model design.
- Knowledge of business intelligence tools such as Power BI and Tableau for building enterprise data management dashboards.
