Job Description

CDM Smith is seeking a Data and AI Solution Architect to join our Business Technology team. At CDM Smith, we see the value of what AI can bring to our company, and we are actively adopting and implementing AI Agents and Generative AI technologies to boost productivity across our business. As a Data and AI Solution Architect, you will design and help deliver innovative, scalable solutions powered by artificial intelligence. This role will work across business, data engineering, and technology teams to translate business needs into practical AI-enabled solutions. The Data and AI Solution Architect will evaluate emerging AI capabilities and design end-to-end solutions that incorporate generative AI, AI agents, machine learning, enterprise data, APIs, and existing technology platforms.

The ideal candidate has exceptional communication and problem-solving skills, is a strategic thinker, and has a proven track record designing and implementing successful AI/ML solutions. Key responsibilities include:

• Develop and design the architecture for various Gen AI and AI agent solutions, ensuring each solution is scalable, secure, and reliable.
• Design how AI solutions securely access and use structured and unstructured enterprise data, and how AI capabilities integrate with business applications, APIs, data platforms, and existing technology ecosystems.
• Develop architecture diagrams, technical designs, solution patterns, and roadmaps.
• Engage with our business partners to understand their requirements and translate them into technical requirements and designs.
• Evaluate different AI approaches and recommend solutions based on business value, technical feasibility, cost, scalability, security, and risk.
• Develop prototypes and proof of concept solutions to demonstrate AI capabilities.
• Contribute to Business Technology's overall AI vision and AI roadmap.
• Mentor and guide junior team members and foster a culture of learning and development.
• Work with Enterprise Architecture and the Lead AI Architect to establish and promote reusable architectures, design patterns, technical standards, and components for common AI capabilities such as RAG, agents, model integration, evaluation and observability.

Skills & Abilities

• Experience with platforms such as Azure, Azure OpenAI, Databricks, Microsoft Copilot, or similar enterprise AI platforms.
• Experience designing cloud-based solutions and working with APIs, microservices, databases, and enterprise integrations.
• Proficient in using and implementing frontier models and open weighted models.
• Experience building AI agents or agentic workflows.
• Experience with LangChain, LangGraph, Semantic Kernel, or comparable AI application frameworks.
• Advanced in writing python code and ability to conduct code reviews and suggest coding best practices.
• Ability to design and manage data pipelines ensuring high-quality data is available for AI model training and deployment.
• Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, software engineers, business analysts, and stakeholders.
• Experience with DevOps practices and tools for continuous integration and deployment of AI models to ensure smooth and automated workflows.
• Understands the principles of the Azure well architected framework and can apply those principles to an AI solution.
• Ability to rapidly learn new AI technologies and determine their practical enterprise applications.
• Experience working with agile methodologies to oversee AI projects from conception to deployment.
• Ability to listen, build rapport, and credibility within IT and across various business units.
• Experience working with and directing offshore team members.

Qualifications

• 6 years of related experience.
• Bachelor's degree.

Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.

Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Additional Pay Range Information

CDM Smith is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. This pay range is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels for the geographic location assigned to the position. In addition to geographic location, a candidate's salary is determined by several other factors including, but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, relevant work experience, skills, required certifications, and education/training.
Additional Compensation

All bonuses at CDM Smith are discretionary and may or may not apply to this position.
