Job Description

Responsible for influencing coverage intent and product design to meet business objectives for cyber and specialty line products. Develops coverage language and forms that optimize competitiveness and responsibility while effectively expressing underwriting intent. Accountable for product innovation, salability and growth in relation to competitor products and meeting customer demand for current coverage offerings by product segment and distribution channel. Provides product coverage expertise, wording design, policy architecture and coverage interpretation. They will design products with both clear coverage intent and operational efficiency in mind and will monitor claims, legal, regulatory and market issues impacting assigned products and provide analysis to drive necessary adjustments. Consults and collaborate with Munich corporate underwriting and within HSB group to ensure the adoption of best practices and alignment across the organization. They will apply their expertise and creativity to develop and design product enhancements quickly and with a high degree of quality.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Insurance, Business Administration, Communications, English, or related field or equivalent work experience is required
  • An advanced degree (Masters/MBA) , Law JD, or Insurance accreditation (CPCU) is desirable
  • 10+ years experience in policy development, claims, underwriting, or other relevant insurance experience


Knowledge and Skills
  • Deep understanding of traditional and innovative commercial and personal lines insurance, service and warranty products, policy construction methods and general underwriting and claims practices to ensure policies, contracts and other documents are created reflective of underwriting intent
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of direct to consumer insurance and reinsurance coverage, underwriting concepts and principles
  • Strong written language, grammar, interpersonal and verbal communication skills
  • Highly proactive, with a high degree of initiative, and naturally curious and inquisitive to identify issues and decisively solve problems, influence change and provide advice and consultation on complex coverage issues
  • In depth knowledge of cyber and specialty line insurance products
  • Creative and action oriented with strong analytical and innovational skills to develop insurance products efficiently while considering coverage intent, customer focus, and regulatory constraints
  • Understands the organization's structure and exhibits a high degree of courage to influence stakeholders, manage conflict and implement underwriting improvements that lead to positive underwriting results
  • Familiarity with data driven decision making and ability to translate complicated concepts into pragmatic solutions for the business
