Position SummaryWe are seeking an experienced Critical Infrastructure Engineer with a strong background in telecommunications facilities and power systems. This role is responsible for the design, maintenance oversight, operational support, and lifecycle management of critical infrastructure equipment supporting telecommunications environments. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with AC/DC power systems, facility infrastructure, vendor management, and project execution within a carrier or large-scale telecommunications setting.
Key Responsibilities - Design and specify materials and equipment for critical infrastructure projects, including:
- Commercial AC power service entrances
- Switchboards and transformers
- Backup generators and transfer switches
- Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems
- DC power plants and rectifiers
- Power distribution systems
- Battery systems
- Grounding systems
- Fire protection systems
- HVAC and cooling systems
- Maintain infrastructure documentation, including floor plans, equipment layouts, and capacity records to accurately reflect installed systems.
- Coordinate and manage third-party maintenance vendors for emergency repairs, scheduled maintenance activities, and service projects.
- Review repair proposals, monitor vendor performance, and support invoice and purchase request processing.
- Develop and implement operational standards and best practices for critical infrastructure systems.
- Create and maintain Method of Procedure (MOP) documentation for infrastructure repairs, upgrades, and maintenance activities.
- Ensure all maintenance activities are executed in accordance with approved procedures and established safety standards.
- Review contractor field reports related to preventive maintenance, inspections, repairs, and other service activities.
- Identify and resolve operational deficiencies identified through preventive maintenance programs and field inspections.
- Provide technical support to operations teams by troubleshooting infrastructure issues and coordinating with equipment manufacturers or vendors as needed.
- Develop reliability and performance reports to identify trends, mitigate risks, and improve overall system performance.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for critical infrastructure systems and provide guidance on technical challenges and solutions.
- Manage infrastructure upgrade, augmentation, and break/fix projects from planning through completion.
- Support environmental compliance efforts, including permitting and regulatory documentation requirements.
- Maintain accurate equipment inventory records and ensure the integrity of asset and maintenance databases.
Required Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field; equivalent industry experience will also be considered.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience supporting telecommunications critical infrastructure systems.
- Demonstrated experience with the operation, maintenance, and management of:
- AC power distribution systems
- Building infrastructure systems
- Grounding systems
- Fire detection and suppression systems
- Generators and transfer switch equipment (ATS/MTS)
- UPS systems
- DC power plant systems
- HVAC and cooling systems
- Experience working within telecommunications environments utilizing industry-standard engineering practices established by major service providers.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and experience using database or asset management systems.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to coordinate multiple initiatives simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications - Experience supporting central office, carrier, or other mission-critical telecommunications facilities.
- Knowledge of preventive maintenance programs and infrastructure reliability practices.
- Familiarity with asset tracking and facilities management platforms.
Work Environment This position may require occasional travel to support field activities, vendor coordination, and infrastructure projects. Candidates should be comfortable working in mission-critical environments where maintaining operational continuity is essential.
