Credit Risk & Underwriting Manager Location: Vancouver, BC

About the Role:VoPay is seeking a senior leader to build and lead our credit risk and underwriting function across our embedded finance and payment operations. This role will be responsible for designing and implementing a scalable risk framework that enables VoPay to confidently onboard, assess, and manage customers and partners where financial exposure exists.The ideal candidate will combine banking-grade underwriting discipline with the agility required in a high-growth fintech environment.
Key Responsibilities:Build the Credit Risk & Underwriting Framework- Design and implement VoPay's end-to-end credit risk strategy
- Establish underwriting policies for enterprise clients, ISV partners, and transaction-based exposure scenarios
- Define risk tiers, exposure limits, and approval workflows
Customer & Partner Risk Assessment- Lead underwriting for new and existing customers with exposure risk
- Develop models to assess financial strength, liquidity, cash flow, business model risk, and transaction behavior
- Introduce structured onboarding risk scoring aligned with financial institution standards
Exposure & Transaction Risk Management- Define frameworks for funds-at-risk exposure, settlement risk, and prefunding vs. post-funding models
- Partner with Payments and Operations teams to reduce risk leakage
- Implement monitoring for ongoing exposure and threshold management
Policy, Governance & Compliance Alignment- Align credit risk practices with regulatory expectations, banking partner requirements, and internal compliance standards
- Collaborate with Compliance on KYB, AML, and risk reviews
Tools, Models & Infrastructure- Develop and implement credit scoring models, risk dashboards, and reporting tools
- Build automated underwriting workflows
- Work with Product and Engineering to embed risk into the platform
Team Leadership & Development- Hire and scale a credit risk and underwriting team
- Establish review committees and approval structures
- Foster a disciplined, commercially aligned risk culture
Strategic Risk Advisory- Advise leadership on risk appetite, new product launches, and market expansion
- Balance growth objectives with prudent risk management
The ideal candidate will have:- 7+ years of experience in credit risk, underwriting, or financial risk management
- Proven track record building or scaling risk functions in fintech, payments, or banking
- Strong balance of risk discipline and commercial judgment
- Hands-on operator comfortable in fast-paced, ambiguous environments
- Experience working with banking partners and regulatory frameworks
- Data-driven with experience using models and analytics to inform decisions
Compensation
$100,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
