Canadian Banking is comprised of TD's Canadian personal banking and business banking segments and is the engine of TD Bank representing over 35% of the bank's revenues. Our dynamic, talented and collegial team of legal professionals provide advice about a wide range of legal issues in Canadian Banking. Role Overview & Key Responsibilities:
You will provide legal advice and manage legal risk relating to TD's Canadian Personal Bank (CPB):
Provide risk-calibrated legal advice that enables business strategy while managing legal and regulatory risk
Translate complex legal issues into clear, practical guidance for business partners
Support the development, launch, and evolution of CPB products and initiatives
Identify issues and provide practical insight into risks to assist colleagues in making decisions
Recognize opportunities to use legal expertise to contribute to business solutions and enable business strategy
Seek innovation in products, services delivery and advice-giving and adapt to change
Core Accountabilities:
Participate in Product Development, Issue-spotting, and Regulatory Change Initiatives for CPB products
Provide legal and strategic advice to business and control partners to support compliance with federal and provincial legislation relevant to your areas of responsibility, including Bank Act consumer provisions and related codes/commitments and provincial consumer protection laws
Support the resolution of customer issues and complaints
Keep up to date and support advocacy on new legislation and regulations impacting the Bank at the federal and provincial levels
Advise the Legal Department and businesses you support on legal developments and issues affecting your areas of responsibility
Draft and review customer-facing agreements and communications
Support the management of relevant regulatory relationships and investigations
Qualifications:
Relevant professional certifications or equivalent required (J.D./LL.B)
Professional graduate degree in Quebec Civil law (LL.L) is an asset
Licensed to practice law in Ontario
Licensed to practice law in Quebec is an asset
7+ years relevant experience
Ability to work and communicate in French is a strong asset
Knowledge of Quebec consumer protection laws is a strong asset
