Cost Accounting Manager

A leading manufacturing organization is seeking an experienced Cost Accounting Manager to oversee inventory accounting, cost management, and manufacturing finance activities. This position will serve as a key finance partner to Operations and Supply Chain leadership, providing financial analysis and insights to support operational performance, cost control, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities:

Costing and Inventory Control

  • Oversee inventory accounting, including raw materials, work-in-process, finished goods, and inventory reserves.

  • Maintain and enhance standard costing methodologies and perform detailed variance analysis across materials, labor, overhead, usage, and purchasing.

  • Ensure accurate inventory valuation and reconciliation within the company's ERP system.

  • Lead physical inventory and cycle count processes, investigate variances, and implement corrective actions.

  • Partner with Operations and Supply Chain to improve inventory accuracy, inventory turns, and working capital efficiency.

  • Analyze product costs, margins, pricing, and manufacturing performance to identify opportunities for cost reduction and improved profitability.

  • Support budgeting and forecasting activities related to manufacturing costs, inventory, and operational expenses.

  • Provide financial analysis and support for productivity initiatives, sourcing decisions, capital investments, and process improvements.

  • Manage, coach, and develop accounting and finance personnel as applicable.

  • Ensure compliance with company accounting policies and internal controls.

Monthly Reporting

  • Prepare and analyze monthly cost, inventory, and manufacturing performance reports for management.

  • Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities related to inventory and cost of sales.

  • Provide detailed variance analysis and explanations of significant changes in manufacturing costs and financial performance.

  • Prepare account reconciliations and ensure the accuracy and integrity of cost and inventory-related general ledger accounts.

  • Support internal and external audits by providing financial schedules, analysis, and supporting documentation.

  • Partner with Operations, Supply Chain, and Finance leadership to provide actionable financial insights.

  • Identify opportunities to improve reporting processes, financial controls, and overall operational efficiency.

  • Lead or participate in finance, accounting, ERP, and process improvement initiatives.

  • Assist with special projects and ad hoc financial analysis as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in cost accounting, inventory accounting, or manufacturing finance.

  • Previous experience managing or developing accounting/finance staff.

  • Strong understanding of standard costing, inventory accounting, cost of goods sold, and manufacturing variance analysis.

  • Experience working with an ERP system in a manufacturing environment.

  • Advanced Excel and financial analysis skills.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Ability to partner effectively with Operations, Supply Chain, and Finance leadership.

  • CPA or other professional accounting designation preferred.

  • Experience supporting multi-site manufacturing operations preferred.

  • Experience with continuous improvement or lean manufacturing initiatives is a plus.

Compensation: $135,000
Salary is based on a range of factors that include relevant experience, knowledge, skills, other job-related qualifications.
