Contact Email: [email protected] THE POSITIONThe Corrections Electrical Trade Instructor with the Department of Corrections (DOC) at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Chester plays a vital role in applying practical electrical expertise in a secure environment. This position gives you the opportunity to use your trade knowledge to guide inmates through structured, hands-on learning that supports strong vocational development. You will work alongside a professional team that values consistency, clear instruction, and practical skill building. Your leadership helps maintain safe facility operations while giving inmates the chance to learn meaningful abilities they can carry forward.
DESCRIPTION OF WORKThis position provides classroom and on-the-job training in the electrical trade to inmates within a structured program. The work supports daily operations through instruction, supervision, tool control, and documentation. As a Corrections Electrical Trade Instructor, you will perform the following duties:
- Electrical Instruction: Teach installation, repair, inspection, and maintenance practices for electrical systems and equipment
- Classroom Training: Deliver curriculum content, maintain order, and document inmate progress and attendance
- Work Crew Guidance: Direct and oversee inmate work crews completing electrical work orders and inspect finished tasks
- Tool Control: Issue, inventory, and account for materials and tools during training and work assignments
- Material Planning: Determine needed tools and materials and submit purchase requests when required

Work Schedule and Additional Information:- Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
- Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday.
- This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $53,036.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITYQUALIFICATIONSMinimum Experience and Training Requirements:- Five years of experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical wiring, fixtures, and equipment used in buildings; or
- Completion of an approved apprenticeship in the electrical trade; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year of journey level work in the electrical trade.
Other Requirements:- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
