Overview:

Join a high-performing Corporate Tax team where you'll play a strategic role in some of the organization's most significant business initiatives. As a Corporate Tax Consultant, you'll provide tax expertise on complex reinsurance transactions, mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, and other corporate initiatives that help shape the future of Securian Financial.

This role offers the opportunity to influence business decisions from the earliest stages of strategic planning through execution. You'll collaborate with leaders across Finance, Strategic Business Development, Legal, and other business partners to design innovative, tax-efficient solutions that support the company's growth while ensuring compliance with evolving tax regulations.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Strategic Transaction Consulting

  • Serve as the tax subject matter expert for internal and external reinsurance transactions, providing guidance on transaction structures, agreements, and tax implications.


  • Partner with Strategic Business Development to support mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and other corporate initiatives from due diligence through execution.


  • Evaluate transaction structures and recommend creative, tax-efficient alternatives that optimize business outcomes.


  • Communicate the financial and economic impact of tax strategies to business leaders and cross-functional partners.


Tax Planning & Research

  • Develop and evaluate innovative tax planning strategies to minimize federal, state, and premium tax liabilities.


  • Conduct complex tax research and provide practical guidance on technical tax matters affecting the organization.


  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and assess their impact on business operations and strategic initiatives.


  • Identify opportunities to improve tax efficiency while maintaining compliance with applicable regulations.


Cross-Functional Partnership & Compliance

  • Partner with the Corporate Tax team to support quarterly tax provisions and annual federal and state tax filings.


  • Collaborate with Finance, Accounting, Legal, Actuarial, and business leaders to ensure tax considerations are incorporated into strategic decisions.


  • Educate stakeholders on the tax implications of business transactions and planning opportunities.


  • Support a culture of strong governance, compliance, and continuous improvement across the tax function.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.


  • Five or more years of corporate tax experience with strong technical tax knowledge.


  • Experience supporting complex corporate transactions, including due diligence and transaction analysis.


  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate complex tax issues and develop practical solutions.


  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to a variety of audiences.


  • Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships across cross-functional teams while managing multiple priorities.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Taxation, CPA, JD, or other advanced tax credential.


  • Five to eight years of corporate tax experience within the life insurance industry.


  • Experience with life insurance taxation, including reinsurance taxation.


  • Experience supporting mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, or other strategic corporate transactions.


  • Knowledge of federal, state, and premium tax requirements applicable to insurance companies.


  • Proven ability to develop innovative tax planning strategies that support business growth while optimizing tax outcomes.

The estimated base pay range for this job is:

$73,700.00 - $136,800.00

Pay may vary depending on job-related factors and individual experience, skills, knowledge, etc. More information on base pay and incentive pay (if applicable) can be discussed with a member of the Securian Financial Talent Acquisition team.
