ABOUT THE ROLE

The procurement and purchasing team members are critical to ensuring production materials are sourced at the lowest cost while maintaining quality standards and consistently delivered on time to meet production schedules.

The Director of Procurement proactively assesses sourcing needs of Cavco and optimizes the cost, quality, and reliability of the supply chain for manufacturing facilities across Cavco. He/she supervises purchasing agents who coordinate day to day material and supply purchases. This role aligns resources and prioritization to drive strategy execution across smaller teams of managers at times with additional guidance. He/she coaches and develops managers and team leaders.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Manages and coordinates activities of buyers and support staff engaged in purchasing and distributing raw materials, equipment, machinery, and supplies in industrial plant.
  • Establishes purchasing policies and procedures and directs purchasing programs accordingly.
  • Establishes procedures to accomplish procurement of a variety of materials in a cost-effective manner.
  • Evaluates enterprise opportunities to maximize supply chain optimization and discounts
  • Specifically evaluates lumber purchasing opportunities, supply chain, pricing, delivery logistics
  • Evaluates supplier sustainability, business continuity, and reliability
  • Provides advice and support to plant procurement staff
  • Prepares and assigns purchase orders and change notices to purchasing agents.
  • Analyzes market and delivery conditions to determine present and future material availability and prepares market analysis reports.
  • Keeps informed of economic, industrial and other trends that affect markets, prices, and delivery conditions.
  • Reviews and monitors requisitions, supply sources, supplies, quotations, terms, etc.
  • Recommends major purchases of materials on the basis of anticipated changes in prices or on unusual availability situations.
  • Reviews purchase order claims and contracts for conformance to company policy. • Participates in contract negotiations and vendor selection.
  • Monitors performance and capabilities of vendors to ensure maintenance of delivery, quality, and price commitments.
  • Develops and installs clerical and office procedures and practices, and studies work flow, sequence of operations, and office arrangement to determine expediency of installing new or improved office machines.
  • Arranges for disposal of surplus materials.
  • Hires, trains new staff members, and supervises and evaluates job performance of purchasing department personnel.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree required • At least eight years of work experience in purchasing and/or costing
  • Effective time management Skills
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and multi-task
  • Demonstrate a good work ethic based on principles of honesty and integrity
  • Experience with Microsoft Office
