Summary:
The Director, Specialty Pharmacy Services will use vision, initiative, and leadership to make an impact on patient care across Ballad Health. The Director, Specialty Pharmacy Services shall be responsible for the overall direction and administration of the clinical and business operations directly related to specialty pharmacy operations and medication therapy management departments. This role is responsible for leading Ballad Health's enterprise-wide specialty pharmacy services. This individual will collaborate with site leaders and oversee the identification, prioritization, and implementation of specialty pharmacy services across the enterprise. This individual will lead system specialty pharmacy services and ensure compliance with all state, federal, payer, and accreditation requirements. This Director is responsible for obtaining and maintaining necessary accreditations, payer contracts, or vendor contracts required for the department. The Director, Specialty Pharmacy Services will be a highly visible leader who is able to communicate at the highest professional level with physicians, nurses, and other professional staff. The Director is responsible for team member coordination of the specialty pharmacy operations, medication therapy management operations, and clinical initiatives. The Director will conduct regular meetings with team members to maintain standards of care and to improve the quality of services. The Director is responsible for overseeing and coordinating strategic initiatives, operational workflows, and collaborative efforts between the Specialty Pharmacy departments and the Medication Therapy Management (MTM) departments. This includes aligning departmental goals, streamlining communication, and ensuring integrated patient care services. The Director plays a key role in optimizing resource allocation, enhancing clinical outcomes, and driving performance metrics through effective leadership, policy development, and interdepartmental synergy. The Director is responsible for following the trends and direction of the specialty pharmacy industry and implementing those to specialty pharmacy services at Ballad Health as appropriate.
Requirements:
The candidate must be a graduate of a college of pharmacy accredited by the American Council for Pharmaceutical Education with an advanced degree (e.g., PharmD).
Candidate must have at least 8 years of progressively responsible experience with at least 3 years of clinical experience in a specialty pharmacy setting. Must have at least 5 years supervisory/management experience.
Master of Business Administration, Master of Health Administration, Master of Public Health, or Master of Science in a health-related discipline preferred.
Prior experience as a pharmacy preceptor preferred.
Experience with program development preferred.
Previous directorial experience preferred.
Licenses and Certifications:
Must hold or be eligible to hold a valid and active Pharmacy licensure in both Tennessee and Virginia
Board Pharmaceutical Specialties Certification in at least one discipline (e.g., BCPS, BCOP) OR the Certified Specialty Pharmacist (CSP) required.
