Job Summary

Reporting to the Program Manager, Customer Service & Issues Management, the Coordinator Business Support, will assist with the day-to-day operations of the General Manager's Office and support the implementation of Divisional priorities, as identified. Owning the Division's equity file, the coordinator will represent the Division in corporate wide equity initiatives, building cross divisional relationships and enhancing EDC's initiatives around the same. Additionally, the Coordinator Business Support will be called upon to lead and support stakeholder engagements for Divisional/ corporate initiatives.

Major Responsibilities

  • Manages plans, strategies and programs affecting the organization, including maintaining confidential information.
  • A champion of continuous improvement, liaises and participates with senior management in the identification and resolution of Division-wide issues.
  • Conducts research into assigned area ensuring that such research takes into account developments within the field, corporate policies and practices, legislation and initiatives by other orders of government.
  • Oversees, coordinates and participates in the development and implementation of equity related Divisional and corporate initiatives and assigned projects, ensuring effective teamwork and communication, high standards of work quality, organizational performance and continuous learning. Prepares reports as required.
  • Acts as a Divisional liaison for information and problem resolution.
  • Makes recommendations to the Program Manager to support change management strategies to improve the Division's overall strategic and operating performance, often creating and actioning a plan to move those recommendations forward.
  • Acts as the Division's representative for equity focused corporate initiatives.
  • Reviews all requests requiring the Program Manager's signature for accuracy and completeness of information, financial requirements and authorities. Monitors and ensures compliance with requirements and processes.
  • Undertakes a broad range of corporate initiatives and reporting activities including managing FOI requests and coordinating Auditor General inquiries while developing, maintaining, and implementing processes and mechanisms that strengthen the Division's internal controls, oversight, and compliance, and providing informed recommendations to SMT.
  • Monitors relevant agendas for reports of interest to Divisional operations. Maintains records regarding outstanding reports, planning documents, strategic reports, etc. Prepares briefing notes and presentations for the Program Manager.
  • Ensures the Program Manager is informed of ongoing status, issues and opportunities.
  • Maintains a thorough and continuous knowledge of City and Divisional policies, initiatives and operational issues, as well as key contacts.
  • Provides direction to administrative support staff in order to successfully complete assigned tasks.
  • Provides support on projects and initiatives as assigned.


Key Qualifications

  1. Experience in conducting research and analysis, developing recommendations, and creating concise and effective reports, presentations, briefing notes, and correspondence.
  2. Experience managing highly sensitive and confidential information for senior leadership and key stakeholders, demonstrating strong political acuity and sound judgment
  3. Post-secondary education in a related discipline pertinent to the job function or the equivalent combination of education and/or relevant experience
  4. Experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of equity, diversity and inclusion policies, programs, and initiatives within a large public or private sector organization.
  5. Proficiency in the use of software applications, such as SharePoint, SAP, Ariba and Microsoft Office/Microsoft 365
  6. Knowledge of municipal government operations, processes, and structure.
  7. Knowledge of key economic development and culture related issues impacting Toronto.
  8. Ability to work in a highly demanding work environment with many competing priorities and deadlines.
  9. Ability to work independently and as part of a high performing team.
  10. Excellent communication skills with an ability to establish good work relationships with all stakeholders, including other Divisions, employees, outside agencies and the general public.
  11. Sound judgment on confidential and sensitive matters, able to manage difficult situations with minimal supervision.
