Controls Engineer

Reporting to the Plant Engineering Manager, the Controls Engineer is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, modifying, and maintaining all industrial automation and controls systems throughout the manufacturing plant. Additional responsibilities include the design, sourcing, installing, implementation, and maintenance of industrial automation and manufacturing equipment including PLC programming & diagnostics.

Responsibilities

  • Independently lead and collaboratively support Maintenance Technicians with troubleshooting industrial automation control components & system issues with plant equipment.
  • Recommend, select, source, and maintain, all controls, electrical, and electronics spare parts for production equipment with a focus on organization and maintenance of that inventory.
  • Improve process safety, reliability, quality, and consistency with thoughtful, justifiable application of your programming skills and implementation of novel technologies.
  • Ensure accurate documentation creation and maintenance of records related to equipment modifications as well as equipment failures.
  • Manage oversight of electronic component repair and share knowledgeable recommendations for 3rd party support, when needed.
  • Maintain, update, generate, and perform current and future device calibrations to satisfy accuracy & precision requirements and aid in returning all calibrations activities to the Quality and/or Technical Departments & team members.
  • Lead & assist Maintenance Technicians to create standardized preventative maintenance routines and work instructions, including support of plant infrastructure and facilities as required.
  • Assist with training & development of fellow team members' capabilities with selection, application, operation, troubleshooting/diagnosing, repairing, modifying, upgrading, and replacing industrial automation control devices.
  • Assist production team through recommending, repairing, installing, upgrading, modifying, and replacing industrial automation components & systems.
  • Ensure team is following the guidelines and intentions of the Quality and Environmental, Health and Safety policies by performing.
  • Other duties, as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Minimum 3-5 years direct experience and responsibility for industrial automation in a manufacturing environment
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Systems Engineering, Computer Science or related field preferred.
  • Certifications with Allen-Bradley hardware & software (RSLogix 500 and RS Logix 5000, Studio 5000) necessary
  • Experience and demonstrable knowledge of Parker, Siemens, PowerFlex, Yaskawa drives required.
  • In-depth knowledge and demonstrable hands-on experience with electronics, industrial automation, electrical control systems, and effective troubleshooting/diagnostic skills with aforementioned systems is required.
  • Valid NCBEEC Unlimited Electrical License beneficial.
  • Individual contributor experience with electronics and PLC programming is required.
