Full Job Description
Controls Engineer

Location: N. Charleston, South Carolina

The Controls Engineer will design, develop, and maintain electrical systems in a manufacturing environment, while ensuring compliance with safety regulations. PLC programming and Ladder Logic skills required.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Systems design and development: Design, simulate, and test electrical systems, components, and circuits for new and existing manufacturing equipment. Create and revise electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and layouts using CAD software like AutoCAD or EPLAN.
  • Process Safety Management (PSM) and compliance: Actively participate in PSM activities, including Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) and Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSRs), to ensure that electrical designs meet all applicable safety standards, such as those from OSHA and NFPA.
  • Automation and controls: Design and program control systems using Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs), with specific experience in platforms like Allen-Bradley or Siemens often required. Optimize control systems for efficiency and reliability.
  • Manufacturing support: Provide technical support to manufacturing and maintenance teams to troubleshoot electrical issues and resolve equipment failures. Develop maintenance and testing procedures for electrical equipment.
  • Project management: Plan and execute capital projects related to equipment upgrades and process improvements, including creating budgets, timelines, and procurement specifications.
  • Cross-functional collaboration: Work with mechanical, software, and other engineering disciplines, operations and management, to ensure projects meet all requirements.
  • Documentation and reporting: Create and maintain detailed technical documentation, engineering reports, and records throughout the project lifecycle.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field.
  • 2-5 years of related electrical engineering experience, often with a background in manufacturing or industrial settings preferred.
  • Experience in a PSM-regulated environment is preferred for this specific role.
