Job Description:

ON-SITE Position located in Spokane, WA

POSITION SUMMARY

High-impact position with diverse and exciting projects to develop and design in an OEM. Looking for creative minds that can work on R&D projects and develop solutions for unique product needs.

The Control Systems Engineer IV designs, develops, and oversees all aspects of electrical control systems, equipment, and machinery.  This position is also responsible for the installation and technical support of PLC-based hardware and software.

Knowledge and experience with Rockwell or Siemens PLC and HMI platform are required. Fanuc robotics experience is desired.

This is a collaborative role that works within a team environment.

No direct reports.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

·          Design and develop complex electrical engineering and functional controls system architecture and specifications with input from sales personnel, customers, service technicians, assembly technicians.

·          Performs, plans, and schedules control systems development, including both hardware and software systems, for new/existing machines, options or configurations. 

·          Develops machine functional specifications in conjunction with Product Management and Marketing.

·          Develops conceptual designs and recurring cost estimates.

·          Prepares machine development/project plan, work breakdown structure, and schedule/update. 

·          Designs, performs and leads proof-of-technology tests; analyzes and correlates data; prepares reports and makes recommendations. 

·          Leads and/or performs machine/process risk assessments.

·          Leads and performs Unified Modeling Language (UML) software design practices.

·          Leads detailed engineering tasks including circuit analysis, panel layout, schematic generation, BOM development, etc.  Ensures that documentation is clear, complete, accurate and compliant with company standards.

·          Develops and tests PLC and HMI code, as described by UML guidelines.

·          Installs PLC and HMI code and tests machines at our production facility prior to shipment.

·          Develops written test plans to validate equipment design. Performs tests, analyzes results, prepares written test reports, and makes engineering recommendations, as appropriate.

·          Act as a liaison to production assembly, service and system suppliers and furnish documentation and/or assist in the check-out, machine installation and startup of complex mechanical functionality and control system software.

·          Assists with machine installation, commissioning, field troubleshooting, and customer training, as required.

·          Performs other duties/responsibilities as required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

·          BSEE, BSCE, or BSME degree (or higher) and appropriate job-related continuing education.

 

Experience and Skills

·          Ten (10) or more years of experience within an OEM manufacturing environment

·          PLC and HMI platforms – Siemens required but experience with Allan Bradley may be considered

·          VFD knowledge

·          Motion control is desired

·          Experience with robot controllers is desired

·          In-depth knowledge of controls engineering and a broad working knowledge of mechanical engineering

Physical Requirements

·          Travel as needed. (Potentially up to 25%)

·          Sit at a desk or computer for extended periods of time.

·          Move about the office and factory with occasional lifting, bending and reaching.

·          Communicate effectively with internal and external contacts.

Compensation: $102,000 - $152,000 (Depending on experience)
