Job Summary:

In this role you will join the Stationary Power Conversion Controls section within Caterpillar's Electrification + Energy Solutions (E+ES) division. You will develop and validate real-time control algorithms for inverter and charger controls, using Matlab/Simulink model-based development to take controls from model to validated product. Your work will directly shape the performance, quality, and reliability of our next-generation stationary power conversion products.

This role enables electrification of Caterpillar products by working on identifying, simulating, and integrating electric power sources (Battery, Recip Gensets PV) to our products. This involves control system development and simulation of various power conversion systems such as Inverters, Converters, Chargers, etc. In this position, you will build your technical expertise while learning product development through practical application and staying abreast of innovative technology. You will also build your professional network, engage with peers, and receive guidance from mentors in the field.

What You Will Do:

In this role, you will also develop your knowledge base of Caterpillar's products, technologies, processes, services, and systems, which you will use to:
  • Modelling of Electrical & Hybrid Power Systems
  • Simulate and perform grid connection studies to evaluate the performance of renewables, BESS and their controls.
  • Evaluate Controller requirements, identify subsystems and develop strategies for Power Conversion Systems.
  • Evaluate new products, processes, or systems.
  • Communicate results to customers, suppliers, team members, and other business units.
  • Contribute to the design of new products and processes.
  • Perform product and process maintenance.


What You Will Have:
  • Bachelor's degree in an Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum.
  • Analytical Thinking: Extensive experience and knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.
  • Effective Communications: Working knowledge and understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
  • Managing Multiple Priorities: Working knowledge of effective self-management practices; ability to manage multiple concurrent objectives, projects, groups, or activities, making effective judgments as to prioritizing and time allocation.
  • Technical Excellence: Working knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.
  • Product Design and Development: Working knowledge of product features; ability to design, build, and develop a new product, technology, or service from concept through to production.


What Will Set You Apart:
  • Good background in Power Systems and Power Electronics.
  • Understanding of power conversion systems.
  • Proficient in simulating and evaluating power converter systems for power system studies.
  • Understanding of open & closed loop control system, controller requirements, and calibration.
  • Knowledge of MATLAB/Simulink and other Power System modelling Software.
  • Knowledge of Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) and Product-in-the-Loop (PIL) simulations to validate system performance and control strategies.
  • Understanding of converter and inverter controls, distribution systems and microgrids.

  • This position is located in Mossville, IL and requires 5-day a week on-site availability

Summary Pay Range:

$97,530.00 - $146,290.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
