Job Description
The Controls Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of building automation systems (BAS), energy management systems (EMS), industrial control systems, and facility-related controls equipment across the client site. This role supports facility operations by ensuring reliable and efficient performance of HVAC, electrical, mechanical, utility, and critical infrastructure systems.
The Controls Engineer partners with clients, facility managers, maintenance teams, contractors, and vendors to deliver safe, compliant, energy-efficient, and cost-effective facility solutions.
Job Responsibilities
Controls Systems Management
• Support control platforms including Siemens, Johnson Controls, Schneider Electric, Honeywell, Tridium Niagara, Distech, Automated Logic, and similar systems.
• Troubleshoot and resolve control system failures, communication issues, and equipment integration problems.
Facilities Operations Support
• Provide technical support for HVAC, chilled water, hot water, compressed air, utility and critical facility systems.
• Analyze operational data and trends to identify performance improvement opportunities.
• Support preventative maintenance programs related to controls and automation equipment.
• Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action development for system failures.
Energy, Sustainability, and Safety
• Monitor facility energy consumption and identify opportunities for energy reduction.
• Optimize control sequences to improve energy efficiency and occupant comfort.
• Support sustainability initiatives and energy conservation efforts.
• Participate in safety programs and enforce safe work practices.
Project Management
• Partner with client to lead or support controls-related capital projects, retrofits, and system upgrades.
• Assist with project building, scheduling, and commissioning activities.
Client Relationship Management
• Serve as a technical subject matter expert for assigned client facilities.
• Communicate system performance, project status, and recommendations to client.
• Respond to client service requests and emergency situations as required.
• Build and maintain positive working relationships with client representatives.

Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Automation Engineering, or related technical field.
• Minimum of 3 - 5 years of experience with facility controls, building automation systems, industrial automation, or related engineering disciplines.
• Experience programming and troubleshooting BAS/EMS systems.
• Knowledge of HVAC systems, electrical systems, mechanical equipment, and facility operations.
• Proficiency with control system graphics, databases, and trending tools.
• Ability to interpret electrical schematics, control drawings, and engineering documentation.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Siemens, Johnson Controls, Schneider Electric, Honeywell, or similar BAS certifications
• Experience supporting manufacturing, pharmaceutical, healthcare, data center, or commercial facilities.
