About the role:

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Controller to lead and manage the accounting operations of our finance team. This role will play a critical part in maintaining the financial health of the business, ensuring accurate reporting, regulatory compliance, and financial controls as we continue to grow and innovate in the art world.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage all accounting operations for the company, including transaction processing, monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closings, related financial reporting, and the development and oversight of internal control systems
  • Function as the primary Company contact for and liaison with the company's external auditors
  • Establish and uphold key accounting policies aligned with the company's business model, industry standards, and market practices
  • Prepare quarterly reports detailing the Company's operating performance across all areas, including revenues, costs, and expenses, with comparisons to prior years, budgets, and forecasts
  • Support the preparation of annual operating budgets and periodic forecasts
  • Monitor company assets to ensure optimal utilization and allocation, while implementing safeguards to protect and preserve them
  • Oversee reports for operating divisions, providing analysis and feedback
  • Direct determination of depreciation rates to apply to capital assets
  • Ensure appropriate records and documentation are maintained
  • Oversee reports required by regulatory agencies
  • Oversee payroll function in conjunction with the HR Manager


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, with CPA designation or master's degree (M. A.) or equivalent a plus; or seven to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience in public accounting and auditing and/or corporate/Management accounting, preferred
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Fully proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks
  • Attention to detail required
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required
  • Passion for antiques and auctions a plus
