About This RoleWe are seeking an experienced and strategic Controller to lead the College's accounting and financial operations. This is a hands-on leadership role for a financial professional with strong higher education accounting experience and demonstrated expertise with Ellucian Banner.
What You Will Work On- Lead and oversee day-to-day accounting and Business Office operations.
- Evaluate and improve processes for accounts payable, procurement, student receivables, and cash receipts.
- Assess team structure, clarify responsibilities, and develop training and cross-training programs.
- Establish and strengthen accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls in accordance with GAAP.
- Coordinate the annual external audit and prepare financial statements and supporting schedules.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reports, forecasts, and financial analyses.
- Monitor cash flow, banking activities, debt, lines of credit, and bond covenant compliance.
- Oversee endowment accounting, pledge receivables, donor reporting, and grant/contract accounting.
- Coordinate required tax and regulatory filings, including Forms 990, 990-T, W-3, 1098, and 1099s.
- Identify financial risks and recommend strategies to protect institutional assets.
- Present financial results, audit matters, and recommendations to senior leadership and Board committees.
- Partner with the CFO/VP of Finance on budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, and strategic initiatives.
- Utilize Ellucian Banner to support accounting operations, financial reporting, data analysis, and process improvement.
What You Will Bring- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 7+ years of progressively responsible accounting or financial management experience.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with Ellucian Banner is required.
- Higher education accounting experience is required or strongly preferred.
- Nonprofit accounting experience required.
- Proven experience leading and developing accounting or finance teams.
- Experience with process improvement, organizational restructuring, or departmental transformation.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
- Working knowledge of FERPA.
- Excellent leadership, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- CPA or MBA preferred.
