Position OverviewWe're seeking an experienced
Controller to own the end-to-end accounting function for six PAL locations. This role is accountable for accurate and on-time monthly close, financial reporting, team leadership, and continuous process improvement. The ideal candidate thrives in a multi-entity environment, partners closely with non-financial leaders, and builds scalable accounting infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities- Own day-to-day accounting operations for KC and PAL locations, including billing, vendor payments, cash management, general ledger, and reconciliations.
- Lead the full month-end close for all six PAL locations, ensuring entries, accruals, reconciliations, reviews, and financial reporting are completed accurately by Business Day 6.
- Prepare and/or review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports in compliance with GAAP and internal standards.
- Build, lead, and develop the accounting team: assess capacity, define roles, hire/onboard talent, plan workload, cross-train, coach, and manage performance.
- Serve as the primary accounting partner to PAL leadership, providing proactive updates on close status, financial results, cash flow, and emerging issues; translate financial data into actionable insights.
- Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules, documentation, and responding to auditor requests.
- Assist with annual budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis in partnership with operations and other departments.
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with City Wide standards and regulatory requirements.
- Drive process standardization, automation, and scalability: evaluate workflows, implement technology solutions, and reduce manual effort to shorten close timelines and improve accuracy.
- Own and monitor KSF dashboards tracking close performance, financial health, service levels, team capacity, and process improvement; address trends or gaps proactively.
- Act as a key escalation point, modeling City Wide's values and servant leadership approach.
- Perform other duties as necessary to support business needs.
RequirementsQualifications- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience (financial reporting, G/L, AR/AP, budgeting, reconciliations), with demonstrated ownership of month-end close in a multi-entity or multi-location environment.
- At least 3 years of people leadership experience, with proven success building, hiring, developing, and holding teams accountable.
- ERP system experience required; Microsoft Dynamics / Business Central preferred.
- Advanced Excel skills, including complex formulas, pivot tables, lookups, multi-scenario modeling, and analysis of large data sets.
- Strong organizational, executive/client-facing communication, and leadership abilities; able to translate financial information for non-financial leaders and build trusted relationships.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), CRM systems, and Power BI.
- Solid technical accounting foundation and understanding of GAAP.
- Experience in client-facing accounting, outsourced accounting, franchise accounting, professional services, or multi-unit operations strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated success standardizing accounting processes and implementing workflow or technology automation to improve accuracy, efficiency, and scalability.
- Comfortable operating in a growing, changing environment with a builder mindset and ability to create scalable processes, documentation, and team structure.
